Mid-Missouri Branch Now Organizing
| |
Volunteers recently met to chow down pizza at Red and Moe's in Columbia, MO while organizing a future branch of USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter. Pictured in photo from left to right are Lyria Bartlett, Nick Peckham, Lawrence Lile, Barbara Buffaloe, and Ben Datema.
Lots of progress has been made towards meeting the Branch Organizing Startup Checklist requirements. Additionally, several successful LEED webinars have been held, whipping up a groundswell of enthusiasm.
In September, the Mid-Missouri branch is planning a tour of the LEED Gold Columbia City Hall. And in October there will be a lecture by Not-So-Big-House author Susan Susanka. More LEED webinars are also on the way.
Volunteers for several branch positions are already filled, including Chair (Lawrence Lile), Vice Chair (Lyria Bartlett), Programs (Lawrence Lile), Communications (Lyria Bartlett), Board Liason (Barbara Buffaloe). Off to a running start, we are glad to see how many people are interested in a Mid-Missouri branch of USGBC-Missouri Gateway!
For more information or to get involved contact Chapter staff at [email protected] or Lawrence Lile.

Construction & Demolition
Materials Toolkit Debut
| |
Nationwide, it is estimated that as much as 40% of the raw materials consumed in the United States - steel, concrete, glass and wood - are used in construction, creating abundant amounts of waste when new buildings are constructed. Additionally, the construction & demolition (C&D) waste stream represents 25% of all of the solid waste discarded in the United States.
USGBC-Missouri Gateway teamed up with ReSource St. Louis and Missouri Enterprise on the Construction & Demolition Waste & Education Research Project, which was supported by the St. Louis Jefferson Solid Waste Management District. Through research and focus groups, the team created an online C&D Materials Toolkit as well as an education session on the State of C&D Recycling in St. Louis.
Check out the web-based C&D Toolkit. It is designed to inform, educate and provide resources and information related to C&D recycling and reuse for contractors, haulers, developers, architects, engineers, consultants, nonprofit organization and private citizens.
And save the date for our next education session - State of C&D Recycling in St. Louis* - on Monday, November 7 from 3:30 - 5:30 pm. Look for more details on registration and location soon.
*PLEASE NOTE: this is a repeat of the session held
at the end of June 2011 in partnership with AGC-St. Louis.
