my artist bug is biting...and true to my roots, i am setting out to document the "quintessential pacific northwest childhood," one child at a time, in a series of life-sized fine art portraits.

shades of gray photography is seeking fresh faces - girls and boys from the pacific northwest between the ages of 4 and 12.

i will be photographing kids in picturesque locales in and around the greater seattle area, capturing artistic portraits that tell the somewhat fairytale...ish story of childhood in the pacific northwest.

-    surf, sandcastles, and driftwood on alki beach
-    cowboy boots and tutus in rugged north bend
-    vintage clothing and wagon wheels in woodinville's barn/wine country
-    the urban seattle scene, hip with brick and neon dotted cityscapes
-    rain, inevitably!  and umbrellas, rainboots, raindrops, puddles...you know.

so, what's in it for me?
as a thank you for participating in this project, shades of gray photography will give a gorgeous 11x14 frame-ready fine art print from our session to each participant.  not to mention a little fame, a lot of fun, good karma, and...did i mention the fine art print?

how do i apply?
interested parents, please contact shades of gray photography at 206-799-5604, or via email at [email protected].  we'll email a short application, and ask for a brief description & snapshot of your child.  

**participants will be selected between february 5-15

what will i need to do?
if selected, you and your child will be asked to commit (by february 19) to an available session date in february or march.  upon booking a session date, we will schedule a 30-minute pre-shoot consultation to go over location, wardrobe, look, feel, and other particulars in advance.  you will also be asked to sign a model release form in advance.

depending upon where your child's shoot is set to take place, the session could require between 2 and 5 hours of your time (and whole heckuva lot of fun).  parents will need to provide the child's transportation to and from the shoot location.  we ask that kids arrive with clean skin, a full belly, and hair that is clean/combed/brushed/styled.  all sessions will be scheduled in the late afternoon and pre-evening hours for lighting purposes.

a deposit of $100 will be required to secure your session date, and will be refunded when you show up to the session (the purpose of the deposit is not to charge you a fee, but to guard against "no-shows."  it is fully refundable.)

can all my kids do it together?
we're looking for individual children for each of the sessions - no siblings this time, please, unless they're identical twins!  if you have more than one child, an application for each may be made separately.  the refundable deposit will be required for each session scheduled.

in the event of typical light or moderate seattle rain, the show will go on (though umbrellas and boots may be incorporated!).  in the event of a truly horrendous downpour, freezing temperatures, or elephants falling from the sky, the photographer will reschedule with you.
