Winner Announced in Nurture Collegiate Design Competition

We are proud to announce that the winner of the 2012 Nurture Collegiate Healthcare Design Competition is the team from Texas Tech University, for their project "Innovative Design for Cancer Centers through the use of 'Care Control Stations'"!

The theme for this year's design competition was "Supporting Mobile Work in Healthcare." While many of the entries were innovative, the judges felt this particular project did an outstanding job of supporting mobile workers and solving for the challenges they face.

Empath Succeeds at Senior Living Organization

Tracy Nichols, Area Healthcare Manager in the New York City/New Jersey/Connecticut market, dealer Dancker, Sellew & Douglas and sales manager Denise Bomberg recently had a project win of Senza Casegoods and Empath at SeaBrook Village, a senior living organization in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. Forty residence rooms at SeaBrook will be outfitted with Senza bedside cabinets, dressers and wardrobes, while fifteen Empaths will be designated for the residence lounge areas and the skilled nursing home rooms.

Dancker, Sellew & Douglas has a longstanding relationship with the Erickson Senior Living organization and they made the initial connection. Tracy was brought in to educate and articulate Nurture's philosophy and mission, along with details and suggestions on appropriate product lines and technical features. She provided a sample of a Senza bedside cabinet, which has since become the standard at SeaBrook, and a demo of the Empath sample after the sales presentation.

SeaBrook Village

Empath was set apart from the competition for its patient-centered design features, its comfort, and its consideration of durability, with its polyurethane arms and protection on the footrest. The clinical staff liked the ease of use, particularly the transition to recline even for a user with frail hands and fingers. The fold-down arm was popular as well with the clinical staff, as it will make transfers easier for both them and the resident.

These recliners will not go in residence rooms, but in the lounge areas and TV rooms. The management of Seabrook encourages residents to get out of their rooms and spend time in the social areas. With the senior citizen population increasing in the United States, senior living residences can be huge opportunities for Empath. By emphasizing some of the more senior citizen friendly insights, you can be successful too!
