Do Generational Differences Affect Healthcare?

Two Steelcase Senior Design Researchers, Melanie Redman and Caroline Kelly, recently had a piece published in Healthcare Design Magazine. The piece details some new research and perspectives that Nurture and Steelcase have developed on "Generation Y" - the generation now moving into healthcare professions. It talks about what makes them tick from a personal and professional perspective and how that is beginning to (and will even more in the near future) impact the healthcare industry as a whole.

They also offer some perspectives on what healthcare designers and healthcare in general can and need to do to attract, engage and retain the workers that they'll need moving forward. We recently discussed this on the Nurture blog as well.

Those attending this year's Healthcare Design Conference in Nashville can learn more about this topic at a panel discussion on Monday, November 14th.

Upcoming Tradeshows

Fall is a season filled with football, pumpkins, and, for Nurture, tradeshows. Our fall is loaded with them, and it's an exciting time to meet new people, share and learn new ideas, and face new challenges together.

First up is TEDMED, October 25-28, in sunny San Diego. TEDMED celebrates conversations that demonstrate the intersection and connections between all things medical and healthcare related: from personal health to public health, devices to design and Hollywood to the hospital. This conference is a great way to be exposed to the latest and greatest healthcare thoughts.

Next up is the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Biennial Convention, or STTI for short. This convention is being held in Grapevine, Texas this year, from October 29 - November 2. Attendees can take in scientific and clinical sessions, including presentations on evidence-based design clinical projects.

Overlapping with STTI will be the annual Planetree conference, from October 30 - November 2 in Nashville, Tennessee. Attendees for this conference will be hospital and long-term care facility executives, facility planners, and frontline staff, and a huge focus will be on patient-centered care.

Closing out this run of tradeshows isNeocon East, in Baltimore on November 2 and 3. The docket includes over 30 CEUs, 250 exhibitors and a host of new products and innovative design.

Check in with us on our social media platforms, as we'll be active on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and our blog during the shows.
