Steelcase Named A Top Tech Innovator By InformationWeek

Steelcase has been included in this year's InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation's most innovative users of business technology.

Specifically mentioned by InformationWeek was the ingenuity of media:scape, a hybrid of innovative furniture design and workplace technology that
provides seamless collaboration via videoconferencing and is making inroads into healthcare markets.

Oncology CEU Reapproved

The Oncology CEU, entitled "Environments for Cancer Care: A User Centered Approach", has been reapproved and its new info is on In2.

This seminar discusses the critical issues affecting oncology care environments and the needs of staff, patients, and care partners, and seeks to answer the following questions: How will your clients compete for qualified clinicians? How will they compete for patients? And even more importantly, how will they take care of
those patients and the people who will care for them?

Competition

The University of Kansas team of Lauren Gloriod, Sara Mae Martens, Rhaynelina Estevez, Lindsay Slavin and Alex Jones won for their submission entitled "Nourishing Newborns" and was advised by John Kelly, principle and design director of Tchoukaleff Kelly Hartke Inc.

For this conceptual design competition, students were challenged with a theme of "waiting." They researched the current challenges within the selected healthcare environment, determined opportunities for improvement, shared their thought processes and prepared presentations demonstrating unique ways to improve the environment and/or processes within.

The KU team's entry tackled the issue of waiting in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). They tapped into existing research on NICU and ICU spaces and conducted interviews with people with personal NICU waiting experiences. Congrats KU! Oklahoma Oncology Gets Folio

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Libby Larson, Nurture AHM, combined with Paul Glavas and Amanda Knowles of Scott Rice to outfit the new Oklahoma Oncology with Folio and a host of other Nurture and Steelcase products.

Libby and Paul initially met last year with Oklahoma Oncology's CEO, Head of Nursing, and Director of Infusion in their old facility that they were in the process of outgrowing. They presented Nurture's insights and research from the Cancer Care Environment CEU (see sidebar for CEU information) and the team from Oklahoma Oncology responded by providing them with a floor plan of the new facility to help lay out the infusion bays and exam rooms. With the help of the Nurture design team, they started with Sonata but the extreme density of the seats required in the infusion area prohibited that product from being the solution for this project. They transitioned instead to Answer for the 30 infusion bays and decided on Folio for the exam rooms.

Paul and Amanda and the team from Scott Rice then modified and fine tuned the layouts after several more meetings with the team from Oklahoma Oncology. In June of this year, Scott Rice hosted a healthcare open house that was instrumental in locking down this project. Oklahoma Oncology attended and after seeing and trying out the new Folio mockup, they gave the green light to move forward with the order of over $250,000 in Nurture and Steelcase products.

This new 40,000 square foot facility combines two previous clinics into one, and thanks to the strong relationship maintained by Scott Rice, Oklahoma Oncology offered up their new place for tours for Scott Rice's other potential clients.

Drawer Liners For Casegoods and Folio

Cleanability and infection control are two key issues facing healthcare customers today. Drawer liners may be the solution for your customer when freestanding casegoods - Ainsley, Park, Senza, Waldorf and Davenport - or Folio products are being specified. These liners fit snugly into the drawer opening and can be removed for easy cleaning or replacement. See pg. 424 of the Nurture casegoods spec guide for specific ordering information.
