Tava Takes San Diego

San Diego - After seeing and trying out the Tava Lounge at the Nurture showroom in Milpitas in June of 2010, Debbie Wood, an interior designer from University of California at San Diego, loved the brand new product. She requested a pre-production sample from Jared Mejeur, the Nurture Sales Representative for Southern California, and he and Marcia Fisher of Steelcase made sure one was quickly sent out to be poked, prodded, and sat on by the decision makers at UCSD.
They took several months to make sure Tava was the right product for them, and once they had decided, Caitlin Wege of BKM OfficeWorks started with the CAL133 testing and the selection process of fabric. The total order was for 26 Tava Lounges for the lobby of the UCSD Moores Cancer Center. Installation took place in March of this year.
The partnership between the dealer and Nurture proved crucial in this project. They supported the client in tandem, communicating regularly so UCSD was confident that BKM and Nurture would be there long term to address their needs. The strength of the relationship has led to UCSD currently evaluating Tava Guest for other parts of the cancer center.
UCSD fell in love with Tava for its clean, rectilinear lines that give it a luxurious, refined feel in a place that can be very difficult for cancer patients and their families to visit. The ash wood was a big deal for its holistic feel and the spring seating provided a level of comfort the client could not find in other clinical pieces. A superior product, combined with a proactive dealer and open lines of communication, led to this successful Tava installation.

The Future of the Patient Room
In the last Dealer Dose, we referenced a Nurture blog post that described some ideas for the Hospital of the Future. This week, we'll focus a bit on the Patient Room, and the changes it will undergo in the not too distant future.
From a prototype developed by Clemson University, NXT and Birdtree Design comes several good ideas for improvements to the patient room's current iteration. The status quo may be cramped and tangled with wires, while the ideal room will utilize technology and space in the smartest way possible, leaving plenty of room for doctors and visitors to move around the room.
Other possibilities include a smart-glass touchscreen door leading into the room, which will alert the doctor, nurses and other visitors of any unique requirements of the patient, like allergies and medicines. There also could be a media center at the foot or the head of the bed, where someone could control the lights, temperature, television, or any number of other things around the room.
Any other ideas for The Patient Room of the Future? Check out the blog to get involved.
