The Hospital of the Future

A recent post on the Nurture blog referenced a contest being held by Kaiser Permanente to design 'the hospital of the future'.

Because the contest calls for designs for a smaller hospital, perfect for a rural market with scarcer resources, the leading proposals feature many green initiatives and multi-functionality.

A Big Win in NYC

NYPH
New York City - NYC is known for its competitiveness, its intensity, its fast pace. This project win was no different. Located at New York Presbyterian Hospital, and led by Area Healthcare Manager Tracy Nichols, this $1.5 million initial project, featuring primarily Folio, and also Player and Amia chairs, went down to the wire and was truly a team effort.

The win includes casework in exam rooms and nurse/physician utilization areas. Going forward, Folio will replace most millwork as the standard in the majority of their facilities. The initial install is the AIM Ambulatory Care Clinic at the NYPH Columbia Campus, while additional projects won are at NYPH sites throughout the NYC and Westchester markets. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is one the most comprehensive university hospital systems in the world, with leading specialists in every field of medicine and is the largest healthcare system in the greater New York Metropolitan Area.

Tracy and the Nurture Team paired with Waldner's Business Environments on this win. Nurture was initially competing with three other manufacturers for the project. After the client narrowed it down to the best two proposals, a bid proposal for the renovation of the AIM Clinic was submitted and  the true competition began.

The Grand Rapids Nurture team supplied a terrific mock-up which excelled in extensive quality and test comparisons including a screw-pull test, ball-drop test, and a water resistance test, among several others. The A&D firm, Stonehill & Taylor, made a showroom visit, followed by a presentation by Waldner's and Nurture on-site where they laid out pricing information and detailed the myriad benefits of Nurture products to the facilities, procurement, design and clinical decision-makers.

It was a success! Tracy credits the quality and attention to detail of the mock-up as being a primary factor in beating out the competition for this project. The customer service from Waldner's was top-notch, as it was from the entire Nurture team. When asked what set Nurture apart from the other bid proposals, Tracy said, "Overall, they got the sense we were the most professional and most capable of handling this work in the right manner with attention to service and detail. Our mock-up was superior to that of the competition, and while our pricing was slightly higher, we had more elements they needed within the package, such as lifetime warranty, warehousing, and experience. The team also demonstrated tremendous knowledge of our product details and was well prepared with competitive intel to help us plan our strategy to win."

Congratulations to Waldner's and the NYC Nurture team on this major win!

A Verge Testimonial

The Verge stool is a simple but effective product that allows users to easily access patients and technology while also being comfortable. Here's a testimonial from Mitch Rogers, Furniture Sales at Eakes Office Plus: "Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska is a 25 bed critical access facility and theyVerge were looking for a chair or stool that nurses could touch down on to update and chart patients in the room. They asked me for suggestions and one I gave was the Verge. The Director of Nursing from PMHC also remembered the Verge stool from a trip she made to Nurture a year ago with Bill Coble and myself.  Bill Coble sent a sample 27" Verge stool out to me so they could try it as a demo and the nurses loved it! It was the perfect perch for them to sit down comfortably and quickly to chart, but also easy to move to another area if it was really needed. Phelps Memorial Health Center is extremely pleased with the 25 Verge stools they purchased and will most likely purchase more as they broke ground on an expansion and renovation this past spring."
