Close Relationship in OH Seals The Deal
Nationwide Children's Hospital, in Columbus, OH, is ranked as one of the nation's ten largest children's hospitals and pediatric research centers. Their brand new main hospital, projected to open in June of 2012, will host over 1 million patient visits per year. Working with Nurture Area Healthcare Manager Scott Patton, NCH recently closed on a $3.5 million purchase of Steelcase branded products, with over $1.8 million of those being Nurture-specific products.
Partnering with Scott on the NCH account was Tarra Aufderheide of Loth, Inc. It was Tarra's exceptionally close relationship to the client that Scott credited as a key to the project's success: "NCH really valued a close relationship with both the local dealer and the manufacturer and the fact that we could provide that was crucial." FKP Architects Inc, of Houston, provided not only architectural expertise but design support as well. FKP worked closely with NCH'S in-house design team, and the close local relationship between Scott, Tarra and NCH helped to mitigate any negative effects the distance between Houston and Columbus could have provided.
The keystone products involved in the project are a custom Sieste double trundle sleeper and a Sieste recliner, both of which are designed specifically to fit the needs of NCH. The double trundle sleeper gives both parents the ability to spend the night in their child's room, and the recliner, which was developed for a member of a patient's family as well as a patient, was chosen for its therapeutic benefits. Stays at NCH are longer than are typical, due to the nature of the illnesses treated there, so the team wanted a product that could provide the utmost in relaxation and comfort.
The sales process was a lengthy one, involving several jet trips, trips to Neocon and Health Care Design, and several mocked-up products, to show the quality and attentiveness to detail the finished custom products would exhibit. In the end, this project proved a success due to the close relationship with the client, and Nurture's ability to fulfill a client's highly specific needs.

Med Assets in Las Vegas

The Med Assets tradeshow was held April 25-29, in Las Vegas. Pocket was featured at the Nurture booth, which was hosted this year by Jeff Fredrickson, a Nurture Area Healthcare Manager. Here are a few thoughts on this year's conference from Jeff:
· There was a significant increase in attendance this year (4500 total attendees, of which 1200 were hospital end-users). · Considerable time was spent discussing healthcare reform and its future impact on hospital finances. What is abundantly clear is that hospitals will need to "size" their operation to get by on less....which means that all of us who serve hospitals (manufacturers and dealers) will be pressured accordingly for concessions. · Differentiation of your solution and the ability to quantify value/savings will be key for both dealers and manufacturers moving forward. · Only a few Elvis sightings this year.....we've transitioned to Lady GaGa now. |
