Opus Specials Seal the Deal
El Paso, TX - Over two and a half years in the making, this $1.4 million project for the University Medical Center of El Paso and the El Paso Children's Hospital has been a long time coming. But for El Paso's only not-for-profit, community-owned hospital and healthcare system, getting exactly what they wanted was worth the wait. Working with Brown Interior Solutions, Nurture AHM Libby Larson secured a sale of 80 Opus adult footwalls to be installed at the University Medical Center and 78 Opus footwalls to be installed at El Paso Children's. In addition, the hospital ordered over $500,000 of Coalesse products.
The specific requirements of the client necessitated some maneuvering on the part of Libby Larson and Brown Interior Solutions. When the unique needs were defined for the Childrens' footwall, the right resources were brought in, specifically Randy Nelson, an Industrial Designer, to turn the customer "wants" into tangible products. Also critical to design support was Hilario Anaya from Brown; Brown's commitment to design and their good relationship with the client helped this process immensely.
In addition to Randy and Hilario's contributions, the Nurture specials team took on an early and active development role. Prior to shipping, the mockup was installed on-site, in Grand
Rapids, and reviewed by the entire team. Elements of the mockup were identified that were to spec, but weren't exactly right. Design improvements were made and a much better mockup was installed for the customer presentation. After securing approval at each step of the process, including a mockup installation in El Paso, the path is clear for this project to finally install later this year.

80 Teams Register For Collegiate Healthcare Design Competition
Nurture's Collegiate Healthcare Design Competition was born out of a desire to highlight and support the health design education community nationwide, and also foster relationships between A&D firms, EBD thought-leaders nationwide and students as mentors and competition judges. And the chance to possibly encourage a few student designers to engage with and discover the rapidly growing field of healthcare design sounded like a great by-product too. Well, it appears we are on our way to achieving those dreams.
The competition has generated an overwhelming response. 80 teams have registered to compete, representing dozens of universities and hundreds of students.
These students will soon be focused on gaining tangible experience about what patient-focused health care research and design are all about. The overwhelming response to the competition has led many teams to seek out help from A&D contacts close to them.
If you would like to be involved, perhaps as a professional advisor to any of the teams, please send an email with your contact information to Phyllis Goetz at Nurture by Steelcase
