Graded-In Fabric Price Adjustment

The fabric vendors participating in the Nurture Graded-In program have taken a price adjustment for 2011, this includes: Architex, Arc-Com, CF Stinson, Maharam, Momentum and Ultrafabrics.  This adjustment caused some fabrics currently in the program to shift grades, some went up a grade while others went down a grade.  These grade adjustments will be implemented in 30 days on March 15, 2011.  Any orders placed after March 15 will use the updated price grades.

To see a listing of the fabrics in their current grade and the grade they will be in as of March 15, please refer to nurture.com.  The fabric listing in the Nurture spec guide will not contain the correct listing until March 21, so please use nurture.com as your reference until that date.

New PEPs Available!

Product Environmental Profiles (PEPs) have been completed for Tava, Leela, Mineral Recliner, Mitra Recliner, Malibu, and Folio.  These PEPs can be found on the product pages of nurture.com or nurture in2.

Wrong Site Surgeries Still An Issue

From the Nurture Blog comes an eye-opening post regarding quality of care problems, specifically mistakes made during surgery.

An excerpt: "In the book Patient Safety and Quality: An Evidence-Based Handbook for Nurses, Ronda G. Hughes states that wrong site surgery (WSS) is generally caused by a lack of a formal system to verify the site of surgery or a breakdown of the system that verifies the correct site of surgery... "

Nurture and POI Climb Mount Sinai

Toronto, Canada - As one of Canada's pre-eminent patient care, research and academic health science centers, Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital has a well-earned reputation for excellence.  They are undergoing a large redevelopment project and as such recently released a competitive RFP for complete clinical and non-clinical furniture solutions, including systems, storage and seating.

Nurture's area healthcare manager Chris Wilson had beenLeela working with the design firm Brisbin Brook Beynon Architects in Toronto on and off for about 18 months through specification assistance, research presentations and mock-ups.  This led to Steelcase and Nurture products being specified in many of the product categories.

After evaluating the responses, Mount Sinai chose to short-list Steelcase dealer POI Business Interiors and the local Herman Miller dealer, with POI ultimately winning the award.

When asked about some keys to success, POI Account Executive Steve Higgins highlighted our ability to respond with a thorough and complete RFP response, Steelcase's ability to offer comparative alternates to competitive products that were specified, and POI's success in demonstrating their experience and expertise in the Greater Toronto Area's healthcare market.

The final step in this process took place when POI hosted Mt. Sinai representatives at a Steelcase visit in Markham, Ontario to see and touch the solutions selected.  Chris and Steve took advantage of this time to also showcase Steelcase / Nurture solutions that were initially not specified, including waiting room and task seating.  Chris showed them Nurture's R2 seating product, knowing that it was lower priced than Nemschoff, very similar in design, and explained the upcoming enhancements through Nurture's new Leela line.  This strategy also worked in displacing Allseating's Zip chair with Steelcase's Amia.

The results?  A significant win of approximately $1.5m NDN for Steelcase and POI, including 450+ Leela and 150+ Mineral units, over the next 2 years.  Steve has also identified other projects and contacts at the hospital that will lead to more business for years to come.
