Atlanta, GA - Grady Hospital, a historic Level-1 Trauma Center and the leading hospital in downtown Atlanta, recently began a revitalization initiative. Michael Young was brought aboard as CEO and contributions from local philanthropists and organizations were marshaled to renovate and improve its outdated facilities. The new charismatic and results-oriented CEO has also made changing the culture at Grady a priority. To help make that change, they wanted to change where and how the staff works. At the caregiver stations, they saw an opportunity to open up the work area to make the staff more accessible to patients and their families -- instead of seating the staff behind the traditional high barriers. They also used perching work-surfaces to facilitate short duration activities and encourage the nursing staff to spend more time with patients and their families. Jena Underwood (DeKalb Office) and Ross Westlake (Nurture, Area Healthcare Manager) pursued the George Smith, the on staff architect & project manager for months. After finally getting an appointment and then convincing him to visit the DeKalb Nurture showroom, he was impressed with what he saw -- especially the caregiver station applications. After a series of meetings with the Grady Hospital clinical staff and Katina Benenate, the Senior Interior Designer from Duckett Design, Sync was selected for the renovation of the Burn unit caregiver station. Exchange tables and Details monitor arms and work tools were chosen as well. Shortly afterwards, planning began for the Neurology unit renovation and Sync was selected as the new standard for Grady Hospital caregiver stations. There are several more projects under development. The initial order was worth $50,000. Subsequent units are similar and Jena and Ross are positioning additional Nurture products. DeKalb Office did no business with Grady Hospital for years, and is now being invited to bid on many other projects.
