Rethinking Pediatric Nurse Stations

 Scuba Reception

Salt Lake City, UT - When Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah began remodeling their Cardiology Department, an opportunity presented its self to move the customer away from built in millwork nurse stations to modular nurse stations.

Primary Children's Medical Center services a five state area in the Intermountain West - Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and Montana.  This facility has 252 beds and is staffed and equipped to treat children with complex illness and injuries.  Primary Children's Medical Center is owned by Intermountain Healthcare and in addition it is affiliated with the Department of Pediatrics, University of Utah bringing together pediatric research, training and programs to treat and care for childhood illnesses.  Last year Primary Children's cared for over 43,000 patients in their emergency room.  Seeing roughly 195 patients on average per day and provided $13,386,109 in charity care.

Primary Children's Medical Center historically used built in millwork nurse stations because they felt this was the only way to create unique and pediatric friendly nursing station.

Midwest Commercial Interiors having worked with the account for many years knew this was a perfect time to introduce a modular solution caregiver station.  The dealer account manager, Stephanie Ennis, proposed a modular solution made up of Answer system along with mobile storage and details work tools to the department managers (Jason Argyle and David Jensen) and Construction Manager (Dale McIntosh) at Primary Children's .  As Jason, David and Dale began to review the proposal they quickly saw the benefits of modular offerings in that they can adapt the product to work for their staff and not have to make their staff work around the built in product.  This station has now been installed now for 3-4 months and they are already to beginning another construction project in this department to expand the current space based on demand.  The group from Primary Children's now fully understands the true benefits of being able to reuse these stations again in their new space.

To create a pediatric friendly nurse station that is so needed for this facility, Stephanie Ennis (Account Manager) partnered with the DesignTex rep, Deborah Warren, and offered a unique and fun solution using "surface imaging" from DesignTex.  This provided a solution that was not only fun and friendly but a great visual within a space that had been thought of as clinical and scary.

Going forward Dale McIntosh says they are so pleased with how this space turned out that they will use modular nurse stations within this facility based on cost / flexibility and our ability to provide exciting graphic options.
