Boston, MA - Debra Quillen (Office Environments of New England) and Diane Page Stone (Nurture by Steelcase) recently teamed up on an opportunity with Brigham and Women's Hospital. The hospital was finishing up a new Cardiac Care building - scheduled for completion in the spring of 2008. In the move to fill the new building, they emptied out an older patient tower.
The client had ordered Nurture Preference bed side tables for the new cardiac unit and was aware of our ability to respond to specific requirements. Nurture was asked last June if we could modify our standard Preference wardrobes and

bedside cabinets to replace existing cabinetry in the recently emptied tower.
Mockups were provided of a special wardrobe cabinet -- built to accommodate their specific patient safes and bedside tables.
Nurture was lined up against Nemshoff and Izzy in this mock-up. The client asked us for further refinements -- requesting a button lock, similar to their current med-carts. Scott Poeder (Nurture, Specials) worked diligently to source the lock and engineer a solution. The new drawer head was produced and installed on the original mock up. When the client reviewed our proposed solution, OENE and Nurture were awarded 500 bedside tables. In total, a project valued at $500K. The first phase order was placed in May.
Our client shared that Nurture was selected based on our ability to respond to specific requirements, to work with them in formulating a solution and the features of the Preference line - such as, seamless Thermofoil surfaces (reducing the chance for bacterial growth), field replaceable parts and non-institutional design.
