YCD Cycle 2

Cycle 2 Job Readiness Training Graduation:

Young Community Developers (YCD) conducted its 2011 Cycle 2 Graduation ceremony on Friday May 27. A total of thirteen (13) graduates, along with their family member and friends, were in attendance on the University of San Francisco's (UCSF) Mission Bay campus, Arthur and Toni Rembe Rock Hall Auditorium.  Several of YCD's community and business partners were also present for the occasion.  During the ceremony, several graduates volunteered to provide a declaration of their personal experiences before, during and after the training.

Graduates participated in an eight (8) week job readiness and life skills training program, during which time enhancement and development of skills in the areas of conflict resolution, interviewing techniques, which included mock interviews, and resume development were all included in the curriculum.  Graduates also had the opportunity to attend the HealthCare Sector Academy orientation at the OneStop Career Link Center, located at 601 Jackson Street.  Additionally, Admission Specialist, Mark Bouthiller of Goodwill Industries provided insight and overview of San Francisco's TrainGreen Sector Academy.  Our Lead Education and Employment Specialist, Ms. Seals, provided our participants information and insight with CityBuild Sector Academy.

Young Community Developers congratulates the thirteen (13) graduates that demonstrated dedication and commitment in increasing their professional development.  We look forward to providing many more jobseekers the job readiness services during our Cycle III Job Readiness Training, which begins on June 13th, 2011.

MYEEP Graduation:

On Tuesday May 3rd, 2011, YCD held its Mayor's Youth Employment and Education program graduation. The graduation was at Bayview Housing Development. These youth discussed the history and impact of San Francisco's youth employment program. The youth reviewed the history of their fall MYEEP employment as well as the structure of positive youth development, while sharing the personal story of one of their own worksites. Also bay area radio celebrity Big Von from KMEL came and spoke with the youth and gave out gifts to them. It was an amazing event and showed the amazing job the youth have done over the fall 2011.

Participant and Board of Directors Focus Groups:

As part of our ongoing strategic planning process, YCD's Strategic Planning consultant conducted focus groups with our board of directors and with some of our participants. The board focus group was conducted on Wednesday May 4 at 4:00p.m. and the participant focus group was conducted on Tuesday May 10 at 3:00p.m. The purpose of the focus groups was to gauge the current services at YCD and see where there may be room for growth, change or both. This information will help drive the phase 2 of our Strategic Planning 9Who is YCD), which entails the development of a Logic Model.
