Alice GriffithYCD Job Readiness Training Workshop at Alice Griffith:

Young Community Developers staff conducted our first mobile Job Readiness Training (JRT) for young residents of the Alice Griffith public housing community.  Approximately twenty-five (25) youth-ages 15-18-partook in this opportunity, which was coordinated and initiated by Ms. Ronae Kent of Urban Strategies. Ms. Kent recognized a need for youth to receive formal Job Readiness Training and skill enhancement, given the upcoming employment opportunities for residents in the area.  Staff utilized specific activities and exercises from YCD's Equipped for the Future (EFF) Work Readiness curriculum, focusing on the following skills: Conflict Resolution, Choices, Diversity in the workplace, and Job Retention.   The identified participants were engaged and challenged on various work related scenarios specific to the aforementioned areas.

As a result of the workshop several of the participants are currently enrolled in and taking advantage of our 2011 Cycle 2 eight (8) week Job Readiness Training.  YCD looks forward to providing similar workshops for the youth in the future.
