Young Community Developers, Inc. Supporters:

It is a New Year! We are excited about the opportunities this year brings to our community. Millions and millions of dollars of development are coming right here to the Bayview; the Shipyard project, UCSF hospitals and redevelopment and revitalization of Hunters View and Alice Griffith Housing Developments (as well as the same in Potrero Hill). We are dedicated to ensuring that the people within the community we serve benefit from these opportunities and are provided with the jobs they need to sustain healthy and productive lives.

With that said, it will take a concentrated effort on the part of the entire community (CBO's, residents, CCSF Departments, businesses-small and large, employers and anyone who is dedicated to making life better for all of us). We need to take advantage of all of the services offered to us not only at YCD, but within the system as a whole. Job training and barrier removal services are in place in order to put people in a place where they can take advantage of upcoming opportunities. Let us all work together to make these connections for the community.

YCD is dedicated to continuing the promotion of the services offered at YCD. We have been creating new outreach materials and publications that provide the community with insight into what we are doing within the community. Our Director of Operations (Mr. Dion-Jay Brookter) has completed our brand new website and all of our new services, collaborations and activities are posted on the site. YCD GradJRI Graduation Job Readiness Training:

On Friday December 3rd we conducted a graduation for our last 2010 cycle of Job Readiness Initiative Job Training. During this cycle we utilized the Equipped for the Future Job Readiness Training Curriculum and we are proud to announce that we graduated 11 individuals. Two (2) of our graduates were placed at a Philz Coffee warehouse here in San Francisco (on Potrero) as a direct result of JRI job training; six (6) of our graduates have been referred to the City Build Job Readiness Training at MHH and are currently striving to be City Build Academy participants. The remaining participants are receiving case management services from our Education and Employment Specialists and will be connected to an opportunity of their choosing shortly. Graduates shared testimonials and demonstrated dedication and perseverance through the entire 8-week training. We are so proud of each of them and encouraged by all of their stories.

We would like to thank the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency for funding the training and their continued support of YCD. We would also like to thank the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development for their support and dedication as well. In addition we appreciate the continued support of Mission Hiring Hall and all YCD collaborators.

We also would like to highlight the great work of all of our Job Readiness Training team here at YCD: Mrs. Fathina Holmes (now with the CCSF) and all of YCD's Education and Employment Specialists: Mrs. Taula Seals, Mr. Bradley Bradley, Mrs. Shante' Jackson and Mrs. Yolanda Gutierrez. Their dedication to providing outstanding training to job seekers is unmatched.
