Join us in offering Radical Hospitality...

welcoming The hospitality team has openings for new volunteers! (Yes, again!) By ushering, handing out orders of services, and just saying hello, hospitality works to create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who comes to 2U. It's a great way to get to know people, do your part for 2U, and put your spirituality into practice. For more information or to sign up, contact Ann and Nathan (hospitality@secondunitarian.org)

Other Volunteer Opportunities:

children We have a couple once-a-month openings for folks wishing to get involved and help Sunday mornings run smoothly. From simply greeting families at the Children's Welcome Table to  working with our young folks, there are many levels of involvement.  Contact Pam Rumancik at programs@secondunitarian.org for more information.

Disability Pride Parade
Pride is for everyone.  Please join people with disabilities, their families, friends and colleagues at the 9th Annual Disability Pride Parade in downtown Chicago on Saturday, July 21.  This is a day to celebrate diversity, acceptance, and justice.  Please contact Janice Stashwick (janstash22@gmail.com or 312-810-2233) if you would like to be part of 2U's contingent to march in the parade.   The parade steps off at Dearborn and Van Buren at 11 a.m., marches north on Dearborn to Daley Plaza.  If you are interested in volunteering as a parade marshal or in any other capacity, please contact Byl Adam  (byljadam@gmail.com).
Or just come down to cheer us on...and stay for the entertainment at Daley Plaza.  Some acts this year are:  the Jesse White Tumblers; The Arts of Life Band; Collective SOLE dance troupe; Praetorium Signing Church Choir; and rock band Eden. See you there!

ight Ministry News

On July 12th, the White House honored Paul W. Hamann, President and CEO of The Night Ministry, as one of thirteen individuals who have made a significant difference in the way their communities combat homelessness among children and youth as a "Champion of Change."  Paul was honored for his leadership of The Night Ministry and the organization's rich history of providing youth with an innovative system of care.  The Night Ministry's youth housing programs provide structured, safe and supportive living situations to youth from all backgrounds who face multiple, difficult challenges.  Through The Night Ministry's Youth Outreach Van and Youth Shelter Programs, they work on the ground in Chicago neighborhoods to reach adults, teens, pregnant girls and new moms who have nowhere else to go.

"I am extremely honored to receive this honor on behalf of the staff, volunteers and supporters of The Night Ministry as well as those whom we serve. Our work together is making an impact on the streets of Chicago and in the way our government addresses youth homelessness in America. While today is a day to celebrate all that we have achieved, I look forward to finding new and even more effective ways to meet the needs of Chicago's youth," said Hamann.

The Night Ministry is a Chicago-based organization, with an office at 4711 N. Ravenswood Ave. in the 47th Ward, that works to provide housing, healthcare and human connection to members of our community struggling with poverty or homelessness. They are active and on the ground in Chicago neighborhoods, working to build relationships with adults, youth and children. They offer immediate and transitional housing, healthcare, outreach and social services. For more about The Night Ministry, please visit their website.  http://www.thenightministry.org/
