BRIDGING THE GREAT GOD GAP
|
| A Workshop with Dr. Chris Schriner Sunday,June 6,1:15-3:15pm Third Unitarian Church of
Chicago 301 N. Mayfield Avenue
Did you know that atheists are the minority group most Americans are least
willing to allow their children to marry? According to a recent study, they are
"seen as a threat to the American way of life." Even within Unitarian
Universalism, theists and atheists often find it awkward to talk about religion.
But Rev. Chris Schriner is convinced that believers and non-believers have a lot
more in common than they think.
On June 6 Chris will present a workshop based on his brand-new book,
Bridging the Great God Gap: Finding Common Ground Among Believers, Atheists, and
Agnostics.
Here are some reasons you might want to attend this workshop:
- People you love clash about religion. You wish you could help them
reconcile.
- You don't believe in God, but some of those you care about are
fervent believers.
- You do believe in God, and you wish you could talk about
your faith comfortably with those who do not.
- You wonder whether theists
and atheists might have more in common than they imagine.
- You want to have
candid and yet respectful conversations with people whose opinions are different
from yours - opinions about religion, politics, morality, or any other
emotionally loaded subject.
Dr. Schriner is Minister Emeritus of Mission Peak Unitarian Universalist
Congregation in Fremont, California. He is the author of five books, and he also
practiced group and individual psychotherapy for 20 years.
Suggested donation for this program is $5-10, depending on financial means.
No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
