From the Board Chair
by Marva
I love spring. I am an avid gardener and spring is
the time when all my hard work is rewarded. The bulbs I planted the previous
fall begin to surface. When I see the tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils poking
their way through the mulch and leaves, and even sometimes through the snow, all
is right with my world.
I love 2U, and as with my garden, I have many
hopes for the church, for all of you and how we are together. We are in the
period of transition precipitated by a crisis at our church. We must be patient
and give ourselves time to reflect on our past, our values and the consequences
of all the things we did and did not do. And we must watch out for each other--
being patient and loving and accepting of each other is the only way to move
forward.
Let's approach this time of transition as not just
something to get through until a settled minister can be hired. Let's take this
time as an opportunity to prepare for a settled minister by practicing tolerance
and patience, working together to build a shared vision of our beloved community
and deepening our commitment to this place and to each other. In other words, as
Rev. Adam Robersmith encouraged us from the pulpit last Sunday, let's grow,
grow.

haven't had the chance to make your contribution, there is still time. Please

anytime before the end of the fiscal year (June 30th, 2010). Pledges can be

Orientation to Second Unitarian Church
Second Unitarian Church would
like to invite any and all visitors to the orientation we will be holding on Sunday, April 11, noon-2:00 p.m.!! This orientation will be facilitated by
members of the 2U Membership Committee and will be an opportunity to share
information about the rich history of UUism, the shared values of UUists, 2U's
own role in the larger UU movement, and what membership at 2U can look
like. Attending an orientation is one
prerequisite for formalizing membership at 2U.
So, whether you are a regular visitor who is ready to commit to
membership, or you are a casual visitor who just wants to learn more about
Unitarian Universalism, please join us!
Snacks will be provided and
childcare will be available upon request.
To register, please sign-up at the What's Happening table at church (the
big table in the middle of the Palmer Room) or contact the church office at programs@secondunitarian.org. We look forward to seeing you there!

Young Adult Ministry
Take out the Taboo, pick up the Pictionary, and bring on the Bananagrams! The
2U Young Adult Ministry invites young adult members and friends (between ages
18 and 35) to join us for a potluck dinner and game night on Saturday, April
17 at the home of Arcenia Harmon at 7:30pm. For more information, stay tuned to our
Yahoo! Group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/2uyoungadults.
The
Young Adult Ministry works to create meaningful connections between young
adults at 2U and with the broader church community, and to explore
opportunities to serve both in the church and in the community around us.
Whether you've recently moved to Chicago, or if you've been here all your
life, our ministry recognizes and supports the joys and challenges of the
many new beginnings in the lives of young adults at 2U. For more information
contact the church office at programs@secondunitarian.org.

Small Group Ministry
Small group ministry is alive and well at Second Unitarian Church! We have
over 60 people participating in small groups this winter. Whether you're new to
2U or a longtime member, small groups are a wonderful way to connect with your
fellow 2Uers on a deeper level. (We'll be enrolling again for small groups in
April.) For more information on small groups, contact the church office at programs@secondunitarian.org.
