Multi-Generational Worship Update
intergen by Gabrielle Parra

I would first like to thank all of you who took the time to fill out our survey on multi-generational worship.  We had 75 respondents, and have learned a lot about what our community sees for our next generation of multi-generational worship.  You also had some great ideas and suggestions on how to involve children into the worship life of the church.  We have also had some people offer to help us vision and craft multi-generational worship, for which we are truly grateful.

So what is next?  Look for an article in the March 1 edition of the Anvil that will include details about that we learned from the survey, as well as a link to the survey results.  We will also have some information on ways that we will be including children in worship beginning in March.

Thank you for your honesty, suggestions and ongoing support.

Social Justice Corner
spertus 1 by Curtis

Working for social justice in our community is an important way Unitarian Universalists express our faith.

Here are two ways here at 2U you can participate in social justice.

Spotlight Luncheon: "Is Racism Dead Now That Barack Obama is President?"

Please join us in what will be a provocative conversation on this question with guest speakers and members of the 2U community.  A light lunch will be served immediately following the 11:30 service.

·         Date:  Sunday February 22, 2008
·         Time: 12:30 pm - 2pm
·         Location: Upstairs in the Loft

Think about this - When it comes to this issue what is your dream for:  Your family? Your community? Your city? Your country?

This luncheon is sponsored by W.I.D.E. Community and 2U's Social Justice Institute.  Please sign-up at the What's Happening Table or send an e-mail the church at secondunitarian@att.net.

We hope to see you all there.

ACTION ALERT: 5th Congressional District Candidates' Forum co-sponsored by the Lakeview Action Coalition (LAC).

If you live in the 5th congressional district (Rahm Emanuel was once your congressman), or just interested in politics, then you should know that there are over 20 candidates running to represent you and 2U in Congress.

Where do the candidates stand on social justice issues?

Please join us for a 5th Congressional District Candidates Forum
·         Date:  Monday February 23, 2009
·         Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30pm
·         Location: Northeastern Illinois University, Auditorium (5500 N. Saint Louis Ave. - Parking Available)

If you commit to attend the 5th Congressional District Candidates' Forum on February 23, 2009, please sign-up at the What's Happening Table or contact the church at secondunitarian@att.net

LAC will provide buses from the Lakeview Community, please contact LAC with questions or to discuss transportation and childcare (773-549-1947 x387).
Membership Services and Business Directory
Second Unitarian Church is compiling a Service Directory of yellow pagesbusiness and services that our members provide.  This 2U "yellow pages" will be a resource for members to utilize when searching for a service provider.  Whether you're a photographer or plumber, an accountant or artist, we encourage you to submit your service offerings.  You don't need to own or work in a business - freelancers are welcome to participate.  All members of your household are encouraged to contribute, including youth who offer services such as babysitting or yard work or a partner who is not a member him or herself.

Inclusion in the directory is free.  You can submit a form on our website at http://www.secondunitarian.org/service_directory_submission/ or pick up a form at church during February.  If you have questions, please contact Lisa Todd, Membership Coordinator at secondunitarian@att.net  or 773-549-0260 x11.
A Prayer for the Current Financial Situation
Spirit of Life, we live in disturbing days:
     across the world,
     prices rise,
     debts increase,
     banks collapse,
     jobs are taken away,
and fragile security is under threat.
Loving God, meet us in our fear and hear our prayer:
be a tower of strength amidst the shifting sands,
and a light in the darkness;
help us receive your gift of peace,
and fix our hearts where true joys are to be found.  Amen.
Ask me About Pastoral Care
by Rev. Rudra

Pastoral Care Ministry team members are available every Sunday during coffee hour. We are the ones wearing the lavender "Ask me about Pastoral Care" badges. Please chat with us.

Is there something on your mind or heart that you need to talk about with someone? The pastoral care ministry provides a listening ear, and accompanies you on your journey. We also organize meals for people experiencing a life transition such as a baby, a serious illness, or a death. We are here to serve you.

If you have 20 minutes to spare, here's great little story all about Stuff.  It's cute and enlightening and explains a lot, from where Stuff comes from to where Stuff goes, to why exactly we buy all that Stuff.  http://www.storyofstuff.com.
