  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Music Ministry at 2U

The Special Gifts Campaign continues through January.

Please consider Second Unitarian Church (2U) in your year end giving.  If you are a new friend to the church we especially hope that you will use this time to support the work of the 2U community so that we remain an important voice for liberal religion and an active servant for justice in the Lakeview community and beyond.  Donations should be designated as "Special Gift" in the memo line.  You can also donate online at our website, www.secondunitarian.org

May the New Year be a time for balance and exploration, self-care and service, reflection and play.  Thank you for helping make 2U a place where compassion and justice are brought to life.

Faith Development News
by Gabrielle Parra

On Sunday, November 23, many 2U families went on a field trip to the Spertus Children's Center and Open Depot Collection display (you may have missed us in church that day).  In this article you will find images of the art we created that day.

During our visit we explored and experimented with language and light, and heard some traditional Jewish stories told in new ways.

After visiting the Children's Center and viewing the collection, we gathered in a classroom to work on an art activity in response to what we had heard and seen that morning.  Our project was to create mini-collages working with themes of language and light.

Thank you to Paul Alfassa for planning and coordinating the visit, our parent chaperones and participants, and especially the children in our 2U Sunday School program.  You represented Second Unitarian Church beautifully, and I was proud to be with you.

In Faith,
Gabrielle

Join the 2U Sound Crew musical notes

We are looking to add members to our 2U Sound Crew. Each Sunday our sound board for worship services is run by one of our dedicated church members. We need a few more people so that each volunteer works about one Sunday a month. We will have a training sometime in January to learn how to use the sound board.  No experience necessary!  Please contact Katie Norris if you would like to be on the team. 773-549-0260, ext. 29.

Lo-Flow Shower Heads available at 2U

waterThe Green Sanctuary team will have lo-flow shower heads available for $5.00 each.  The shower head actually feels like it increases the water pressure because it makes the jets smaller; rather than just decrease the amount of water that goes through.  To pre-order one, contact the church at secondunitarian@att.net.
Please return your Guest At Your Table boxes

gayt
Every year, UU communities participate in the GAYT program of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.  At each meal, or each day make a contribution to the box, as if sharing with ... a guest at your table.  Please return your boxes to church or mail your contribution directly to the UUSC.

2U Folk Ensemble

The 2U Folk Ensemble will be performing for the February 1 guitarservice. All musicians and singers are invited to participate. The first practice for this service will be Wednesday January 21 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. The second practice - TBA. All interested parties please contact the church at secondunitarian@att.net.

Small Group Ministry - new groups start this winter. small groups

New small groups will begin this winter for another 8 week session.  Groups will meet January 25 - March 22.  Several different meeting times are available please sign up at church or online at the small group ministry section of our website.

Small group ministry is designed to build relationships by sharing in meaningful ways with one another.  The groups foster connection and caring and provide an opportunity for spiritual development and service.  Small Group Ministry is open to anyone who wishes to participate and who can honor the time commitment.   Groups include a time for fellowship, check-in and sharing, quiet meditation and a discussion.  The initial topics highlight the primary values expressed in our church covenant.

Contact Lisa Todd if you have any questions, secondunitarian@att.net or 773-549-0260 x.11.
