Dear friend of STL,
We need your help! Would you consider becoming a Digital un-Divider? It's as easy as making a phone call and inquiring where your company laptops go when they are no longer in use. If your organization just recycles their old laptops then why not suggest they help the environment and help a student by donating them to STL? Don't work in a large company or organization? No problem, ask a friend or family member who does! Our goal is to have over 500 gently used laptops donated to STL by the end of 2011 - and we can't do it without your help!
As you know, STL works to bridge the Digital Divide by providing refurbished laptops to the youth who need them. With your help, we have provided over 2,300 to date - that is enough to outfit 32 bus-loads of students! This is an impressive number, but it could easily be doubled...
Every day organizations across Canada and the US are turning over their laptops and paying to recycle them. However, according to Ruediger Kuehr at the UN University, "...reuse is 20 times better for the environment than recycling".
Our current budget affords approximately 450 computers per year. BUT for every 1 laptop donated, STL could actually donate 2 laptops, thus doubling our impact! The donor, on the other hand, is provided a tax receipt for the market value of the donation. Talk about a win-win scenario.
So please join us in our biggest, most exciting challenge to date!

How:
1) What do we do with our laptops?: Ask the IT department where their laptops go & find out if it is possible to have them donated to STL.
2) Allow me to introduce myself: If yes, that's it, we'll do the rest! Just provide us with their contact information and we'll figure out the nit picky details.
(*gently = under 4 years old and in general good shape so that the recipients can use them for a good, long time)
