STL celebrates Volunteer week!
Dear friend of Sky's the Limit,

STL celebrates National Volunteer week, April 18-24th. Volunteers contribute to the success of our unique initiative by donating their energy, skills and time. We would not be able to achieve our goals without them. Below, Mansour describes his experience volunteering for STL:

Volunteer STL1. How did you first learn about STL?
I was looking for a volunteer job which involved repairing, fixing or working in some capacity with PCs, and laptops. So I consulted the Information Technology (IT) manager of the community health organization that I was a client of, for advice. He sent me the names of a few agencies. STL was one of those. He said a lot of good things about STL, which I saw was true.

2. What interested you about STL?
The fact that it is trying to achieve equality of access to IT, among the most under-resourced groups of youth in various Toronto areas. They appeared to be pursuing their Social Justice objectives, through promoting access to IT, which is a very worthy cause. Our time is an IT time, it is moving everything forward in our world, including politics. As an Iranian, I know how valuable IT and Internet have been in transforming politics and speeding the transition to democracy in my country of origin, Iran.

3. What compelled you to volunteer?
I needed to gain more experience with PCs or laptops, which I need towards my goal of gaining eventual full time employment in the field of computer networking/IT support.

4. What would you say to other potential volunteers regarding your experience as a volunteer?
This small organization has come up with a very innovative idea, to make a very valuable contribution in the struggle for social justice in our society. Through providing and promoting access to laptops for youth, who otherwise won't have access to them. I wish I could be more useful to them, that I could offer technical skills towards achieving their goals.

5. Any additional comments:
I wish all the best to Lara and her colleagues, her volunteers and donors in achieving this sacred dream of achieving equality for all. It has been a pleasure for me to be a small help to STL.
