Volunteers Needed:
Help us count trail users on the Ashuwillticook Trail

The Berkshire Regional Planning Commission has scheduled three data gathering sessions to obtain statistical data on Ashuwillticook Trail usage. The first session was conducted during May. The next one will be take place in July and a third in September.  The data gathered will be used to gain a better understanding of what types of activities people most enjoy while using the trail, and will help to build a foundation for predicting future use.  Most importantly, the data collected will also be used to advocate for greater trail development.

The first session showed the trail use evenly divided between walkers and bicycles with about 500 in each category.  For more detailed information about the May results go to the Bike Path Planning Page on the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission website. Scroll down to the last 1/3 of the page, the counts are under the heading "Trail Counts on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail".

The next session is scheduled for Saturday July 12 from 7:00AM to 7:00PM and Tuesday July 15 between 7:30-9:30AM and 4:30-6:30PM.  The third session is scheduled for Saturday September 6 and Tuesday September 9.

Your Help Needed
Your help would be appreciated during these efforts.  No special skills are required, simply stand along side of the trail and count various categories of users. (Walkers, joggers, bicycles... etc)  Counts will be taken at the Berkshire Mall entrance to the trail in Lanesborough, at Farnam's Road in Cheshire and at Russell Field in Adams.
If you can help for a 2 hour time slot please contact Christine Neumann (cneumann@berkshireplanning.org) for details and to receive a count form.
