Sunday, July 3rd is an important day for the Chamber, the City of Cleveland, and Delta State University. The 1050 members of Teach for America will be gathered at Statesmen Park for a Celebration.  The Chamber has been recruiting volunteers to help as food servers, runners, drink servers and floaters to assist with fill-in. The event starts at 6:00PM and ends with a fireworks show. Volunteers are asked to be there at 5:30PM to make sure everything is in order before the Corps Members start to arrive. If you have not volunteered and would like to do so (we can sure use you!), please call the Chamber at 843-2712. Volunteers are asked to wear red shirts.

TFA "Southern Hospitality Night"

Nothing says "welcome" like opening the doors to your home and offering your guests refreshments and a home-cooked meal.  That's exactly what 10 Cleveland families did on Friday, June 10, welcoming participants in the 2011 Teach For America Delta Institute to Cleveland and the Delta.

"Delta Hospitality Night" was the brainchild of Jo Parker and Ed Kossman, Jr., who came up with the idea after participating in Teach For America events last summer.  "Ed and I were so impressed with Teach For America, and we wanted to come up with a way to make the participants feel at home in Cleveland," said Parker.  "We thought it would be great to have 10 host families invite these young people into our homes for some great food and hospitality."

"We had more than enough eager volunteer families," continued Parker.  "We asked each host family to invite three or more families to co-host with them.  Each home had its own theme and served its own unique menu.  Our guests were so gracious and fun and interesting to visit with."

According to Parker, the welcome may become an annual event.  "The Chamber of Commerce was so supportive and we were able to put this together with six weeks of planning," she said.  "We plan to get together and discuss this year's event and plan for next year.  Everything was so fun and well received.  It was such a pleasure, and we look forward to doing it again."

Thanks for spreading your Southern Hospitality throughout the Teach For America Community.  We have heard nothing but great things about each dinner party.  They raved about how great the food was, how nice and accommodating everyone was, and how the Cleveland community has embraced them with open arms.

Thanks again for showing them the Delta Way!

Coach Pitch Region III World Series

It has never been a better time to be a member of this community and to showcase what we have to offer.  Cleveland will be hosting the Dixie Youth AA Coach Pitch Region III World Series on July 28th - July 31st.  We will have 24 teams participating in two divisions in which 2 of those teams will be our local teams from the East and West side.  In order to successfully host this tournament, it will take the entire community's support in volunteerism.

To Volunteer please contact the Chamber at 662-843-2712.

Dear Chamber Members

With all the excitement in the air about the Grammy Museum let's not forget about all the other wonderful things that we have going on right now in our community.

For the second year in a row Delta State will be hosting Teach for America. The Chamber and the city will host a barbeque for all TFA members, Sunday, July 3.

Our community will also be hosting a Coach Pitch World Series the last weekend in July at Bear Pen Park.

These events can't be possible without the volunteerism of our community. If you would be willing to work at any or all of these events please call the chamber at 843-2712.
