The following is a list of the criteria for the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Award.

1.     A minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 system.

2.     A minimum score of 18 on the ACT or

3.    A minimum score of 860 on the SAT

 

The student will also have to provide the following information:

1.    A copy of their high school transcript attached to the application.

2.    Any other test scores which they think will improve their application.

3.    A list of school, church and community activities.

4.    Two (2) character reference letters from NON-relatives.

Sunday , June 12th is an important day for the Chamber, the City of Cleveland , and Delta State University. The 1150 members of Teach for America will be gathered on the campus of Delta State for registration for their five week stay within our community.  The Chamber has been recruiting volunteers to help as greeters, welcome wagon helpers, organizing luggage, getting members on the shuttle to WalMart , and helping them find their dorms and get settled.    Registration volunteers are asked to take two hour shifts beginning at10:00AM that morning and going until 7:00PM.  If you have not volunteered and would like to do so (we can sure use you!), please call the Chamber at 843-2712.

Coach Pitch Region III World Series 

It has never been a better time to be a member of this community and to showcase what we have to offer.  Cleveland will be hosting the Dixie Youth AA Coach Pitch Region III World Series on July 28th - July 31st.  We will have 24 teams participating in two divisions in which 2 of those teams will be our local teams from the East and West side.  In order to successfully host this tournament, it will take the entire community's support in volunteerism.  I am asking that you will help by volunteering your time in any of the committees listed below or if you would be willing to chair a committee please let me know as we will start meeting very soon to establish a plan of action.

Marketing Task Force is going through with the marketing plan, photo shoots and video shoots have been under way and all ads should start ladder part of May.

 

Chamber Scholarship -Pictures were taken and checks will be distributed June 15. 

 

Earth Day/GAC:  Was April 30 and was a great success.

 

Teacher Appreciation Week was 5/2- 5/6.  Each senior class in Bolivar county has voted for an Outstanding Teacher.  The Proclamation, winner list and pictures were in the newspapers.   Each winner received $50.  The City of Cleveland hung a banner on Court Street in front of the Library thanking all the teachers for their dedication to our future leaders.  The other cities in Bolivar County hung their  banners outside of the school.

 

Tourism - Axel Pinck, a German writer, interviewed Luther Brown and enjoyed a night at Po Monkeys, Thursday, April 7. We hired Terry "Harmonica" Bean to provide live music.

 

Two members of the French Media toured Dockery, April 10.

Two other French writers were here to tour Dockery on April 28.

 

A group from Switzerland was in Cleveland on a repeat visit.  Lee Aylward gave them a two day tour. The couple leading the group made their first trip to Cleveland six years ago.

 

Mississippi Delta Tourism Association held their monthly business meeting in Cleveland, April 15.

 

Eddie Shaw was honored at Bolivar County's 11th Mississippi Blues Trail Marker installation, April 27, at 2 PM in Benoit.

Letter From The Chamber

Dear Chamber Members

 

With all the excitement in the air about the Grammy Museum let's not forget about all the other wonderful things that we have going on right now in our community.

 

For the second year in a row Delta State will be hosting Teach for America. Students will register on Sunday, June 12. The Chamber and the city will host a barbeque for all TFA members, Sunday, July 3.

 

Our community will also be hosting a Coach Pitch World Series the last weekend in July at Bear Pen Park.

 

These events can't be possible without the volunteerism of our community. If you would be willing to work at any or all of these events please call the chamber at 843-2712.

 The Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce is organized for the purpose of advancing the civic, commercial, industrial, economic, social, and general interest of the people of Cleveland and Bolivar County.  It shall encourage the growth of existing industries and businesses while giving all proper assistance to any new firms or individuals seeking to locate in Cleveland and Bolivar County. This organization will support all those activities believed to be beneficial to the community and the area and will oppose those which might be detrimental. And in general, the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce shall follow always those policies intended to accomplish the greatest good for the greatest number.
