'Saturdays in the Park' to resume schedule with August event
CLEVELAND-"Saturdays in the Park" will make its return to Cleveland in August with event organizers confirming six other events planned for the 2009-2010 calendar year. Heat forced the postponement of the two previously-scheduled Saturdays, but still inspired by what event organizers called "awesome" support for the debut happenings, the "Saturdays in the Park" planning committee recently released its upcoming fall slateof events.
"We were, of course, disappointed. We never wanted to postpone our event, but this Delta heat is just too dangerous to ignore. When an experienced certified athletic trainer tells youit's a red-flag day, you should listen and we did, "Saturdays in the Park" Chair, Dr. John Alvarez offered. "What we hope the public understands is that we didn't suspend our programming, we have simply postponed. Come the last Saturday in August, we are going to be right back out there offering this community a great day with the family at our parks," Alvarez added.
A pet and pet care-themed Saturday is now scheduled for Saturday, August 29 at Amzie Moore Park from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. In September, the group will return to Bear Pen Park for another outdoor-themed event. Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, activities will run from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. A Halloween-themed arts, crafts and dance Saturday will conclude the group's fall offerings. Set for Saturday, October 31 at Fireman's Park, activities will begin at 4 p.m. and wrap up at 8 p.m. A spring schedule will bring events to Cleveland's park system in March, April and May. "We've yet to determine those day's themes, because we are working hard to plan and execute our fall schedule, but we've got some different ideas being batted around right now. We are always open to others and we hope those that are really interested in seeing this program continue to grow and work will reach out to us and share their ideas," Saturdays in the Park" Co-Chair, Rori E. Herbison said. A collaborative effort between Delta State University's College of Education and its Health, Physical Education & Recreation Department and the Division of Family & Consumer Sciences, the Center for Community and Economic Development, and the School of Nursing, in cooperation with Cleveland School District, Cleveland Park Commission, Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce and the Leaders of Delta Health & Wellness, "Saturdays in the Park" is a free program offered to all in the community. For more information on "Saturdays in the Park," please contact the Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation at (662) 846-4555, the Cleveland Park Commission at (662) 846-6605 or email saturdaysinthepark@live.com. | |

| Letter From The Executive Board |

Dear Members, One of the things that you get to do as a banker is go to meetings! I have attended a lot of meetings in my life and been involved in a lot of different organizations but I will have to say that I truly enjoyed being an Officer and member of the board of directors for the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce. My term has just ended, having severed with Mark Williams and Bootsie Lyon. This best part of being on the board of directors is being involved in the community and all of its activities. It takes so many people working together to make our community the jewel of the Mississippi Delta. Cleveland is a shinning example of what can be accomplished when everyone pulls together and tries to make things better for everyone. Cleveland has so much to offer, from Delta State activities, to Octoberfest, the Italian Festival, to vibrant downtown, to good southern hospitality and events. People make a community, and the dedication and volunteer spirit is what drives Cleveland. I certainly appreciate the job that Judson Thigpen and his staff have done and continue to do each day to make Cleveland a great place to live and work. I urge everyone to get involved and ask you to be a part of your community and your Chamber of Commerce. Start out by volunteering to be on a committee, and work you way up to chamber board member or officer. There is a place for everyone, so find your place to participate and make Cleveland even better! Clay McWilliams Vice President for Communications & Marketing Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce

| Cleveland Struts Their Stuff! |
|
In the last few weeks, the city of Cleveland has had many visitors who have come for baseball tournaments, basketball tournaments, church conferences and family reunions. They have visited our stores, restaurants, the Martin & Sue King Railroad Heritage and Boo Ferriss museums, and from all reports have had a great time. One thing that got their attention was the discount coupon card that was offered by some of our Chamber merchants and restaurant owners. We have had calls from the people who were in charge of these events and they could not say enough about the hospitality of our town, the Chamber, and the discount coupon cards! Once again our Chamber members who are merchants and restaurant owners rose to the occasion and we just want to say a special "THANKS, GUYS" to Abraham's Clothing Shoppe, Ad-Venture Frames, Allan's Shoes, Cotton Row Book Store, Cotton Row Outlet, Flowers 'N Things, Heidi's, Hometown Gifts & Jewelry, Kamien's, Mudpuddles, Nancy's Hallmark, Neysa's Fireside, Posh, Punkin' Patch, Southern Grill, The Warehouse, and Western Sizzlin', and to Back Yard Burger, Domino's, and The Roof who gave great discount coupons to all the visitors. Not only do these folks work hard at their businesses, but also to support the Chamber in our efforts to let people know what a truly unique city we have in Cleveland. We appreciate everything you do ...we couldn't do it without you!
