My cooking experience includes working with my little Italian grandmother, Mary Julia Fraschillo(Friskillo) Lubiani to learn how to make our family's Italian recipes. My Mother, Mary Lubiani Malatesta,  and she were wonderful cooks who did not measure to cook.  A little of this and a little of that and then you taste and decide if you need any more seasonings to the recipe.   My Mom never quite got the hang of rolling the dough by hand like her Mother did , so I learned when I was just a young child.  I enjoy rolling the dough by hand.  It relaxes me and the family and I bond while we are making different Italian pastas, ravioli, and desserts.  The first year, I just made a ball of dough and cut different types of noodles.  Many Italian ladies came up and demonstrated how their families cut different types of noodles.  Last year, I was joined by my two daughters, who made a ball of dough from scratch and then I rolled it out into a large circle and demonstrated how my Grandmother made her ravioli.  We had a crockpot full of ravioli to taste and even gave a few dozen away as a door prize with a few other prizes.  We had a great time!!!

Letter From The Executive Board

Ever wanted to try something really new, be someone else for a short time? If you want to give it a try now, March 13 and 14 is the time. You can be an Honorary Italian, and we know how much fun they are!!  You can eat lasagna, play Bocce, browse and buy in an authentic Italian Store. If you are feeling adventurous, enter the Spaghetti Eating and/or the Grape Stomping contests.  Stroll through real Italian Kitchens manned (and womaned) by sure 'nuff Italian families making Italian dishes. What divine smells!!!  There will be arts and crafts, foot stomping and dancing music by Delta Rox, Ol' Skool Revue, The Soulsations and The Back 40 Band.  Don't forget to bring the children.  They can try The Kid Grape Stomping, and enjoy the other Children's Activities.  What a great opportunity right here in Cleveland. Before you leave, be sure to sign up at the Chamber Booth for a chance to win TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS. (SORRY THEY ARE AMERICAN DOLLARS).  Come Early and Stay Late.  See You There!!!

Sincerely,

Bootsie Lyons

  • New Members approved: Servpro of Cleveland/Greenville, Specialty Glass, TJ's Package Store, and Tennessee Springs water distribution
  • The Young Professionals Network group met Thursday to brainstorm.  There are 6 in the group headed up by Je remy Bruss. It was a very productive meeting laying the groundwork for a very successful group. It will participate in community service and join problem solving and think tank groups.
  • The Chamber will take full control of its website mid-month instead of outsourcing, which will help keep things much more up-to-date. We are asking for suggestions of how to make it more user-friendly.
  • The Chamber Scholars letter went out on February 5th and to date we have 35-40 scholarships.
  • The Italian Festival of Mississippi is fast approaching. Visit the website for more info on dates and times.
  • A committee was formed to determine Bolivar County's "attractions" and how the Chamber could help promote and to improve on them.
  • An After Hours was held March 5th, at Nancy's Hallmark.  We discussed the Christmas Promotion and got merchant's feedback.
  • A group was in Washington last week to discuss County needs. Some issues they addressed are funding for rural sewage systems, building a juvenile holding facility in Rosedale, the renovation of the Rosedale Court House and funding for refurbishing the railroad track from Rosedale to Metcalf.  This would make the Rosedale Industrial Park much more attractive to prospective industries.
