| Letter From The Executive Board |
The most popular question asked of anyone promoting the Chamber of Commerce is "What does the Chamber do for me?" I think it is beneficial to begin answering that question by referring to the Mission Statement of the Chamber. For that reason, our Mission Statement will be included at the top of each of our monthly newsletters so we can all remember why we give of our time and efforts for Cleveland and Bolivar County. While our methods of achieving this mission may vary from year to year, our Chamber has been very instrumental in making Cleveland and Bolivar County a great place to live and work. One thing we have not done a very good job of for several years is letting people know what is going on at the Chamber. For that reason, we now have a Communications and Marketing Manager, Brian Blansett, who will publish monthly newsletters and weekly updates about things taking place at the Chamber and in Cleveland and Bolivar County. He will also be making face-to-face visits with Chamber members and potential Chamber members to ask for new ideas and suggestions of how we can best achieve our mission. We also realize that although we have many events in Cleveland and Bolivar County, our Chamber needs to be more involved and informed about these events so we can better serve our visitors. Another new employee at the Chamber is Frances Janoush, who will serve as our Events Coordinator. Frances's job will be to help facilitate events coming to Bolivar County, as well as explore opportunities to recruit more events. As I stated, our method of achieving our mission may change from time to time. If you have ideas and suggestions to improve the quality of life in Cleveland and Bolivar County, give me a call at 662-843-2712 or email me at judson@clevelandmschamber.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Judson Thigpen | |

The Chamber was very proud to have a small part in making the Fallen Heroes from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars Ceremony on Saturday, January 31, such a great success. Approximately 500 veterans, family members and spectators filled the Bolivar County Expo to pay tribute to those that gave their lives. The Chamber contacted the media, printed the programs and posters. Businesses along Highway 61 used their signs to make the public aware of the ceremony. On Monday, February 2, Chamber representatives attended the placing of the memorial in the Bolivar County Court House where it will be housed permanently. This memorial was the vision of one man, Sonny Roncali from Shaw who saw it through its completion. If you have not seen the memorial, please take time to view it at the Court House.
