December 2010
Waggin tail happy holsSeasons Greetings!
2010 has  been a year of growth for Lucky Dog Resorts! We added agility class at Central, a new trainer and training program at South, and expanded our cat boarding.  Our biggest change was a pool for our water loving dogs, along with dock diving classes!  We also started our very own Lucky Dog Rescue and have been fortunate enough to find forever homes for 27  very deserving dogs. With all of our activities the year just flew by!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our clients for their continued (and growing!) support of our programs and services. It is a pleasure to serve the dog loving community of Colorado Springs, and to be surrounded by people who understand the importance of social activities for their dogs.

We at Lucky Dog plan  to continue our growth in 2011! You never know what we will come up with next, but we never stop thinking about new ways to serve our clients and their dogs! Never hesitate to let us know how we can improve our business and make Lucky Dog more fun than ever for your great dog!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Why Foster a Rescue?
Charolotte
All I want for Christmas is you!
Fostering a dog is an extremely important part of rescue, because a home environment, albeit temporary, prepares a dog for his forever home and family. Removing a dog from a shelter, a home where he is not being taken care of properly, or even taking him right off the street provides a "halfway house" between his previous life and his new life to come. Some reasons to foster:

1.  Gives a dog a second chance.

2. Fostering a dog is an excellent family project (although singles and couples can foster too, of course.)

3. Fostering a dog costs virtually nothing.

4. Fostering can provide a playmate for your on dog.

5. Fostering a dog provides you companionship even if you are unable to make a long term commitment.

6. Fostering helps satisfy your nurturing instincts.

7. Fostering a dog helps get you up and moving! Walking a dog is great for you AND the dog.

8. Fostering a dog gives you the opportunity to meet new people and observe the joy and gratitude when your foster dog goes to a permanent home!

By the way, the sweet little face above is "Charlie" a spayed female rescued from a closing shelter in Arkansas. She is being fostered with a Lucky Dog employee, but would love to be "home for the holidays!" Contact Lucky Dog Rescue for more details at 719-599-9663 ext 103

Seventy percent of people sign their pet's name on holiday greeting cards and fifty eight percent include their pets in family and holiday portraits, according to a survey done by the American Animal Hospital Association.

Survey Responses!

We thank the many clients who responded to our November survey! Every answer was read, and every suggestion was considered. As you probably know, sometimes there are "behind the scenes" reasons that a business cannot change a policy, but we do our best to honor our client's requests. Here are some of the ideas and our responses:

I would like to see Lucky Dog offer Sunday daycare.

LD - We have tried Sunday daycare, but it does not bring in more than 1 or 2 dogs. That along with our reduced Sunday hours makes daycare impractical.

We would like to see 1/2 day daycare with a swim session included for under $20.

LD - After the new year we will be offering one playfloor session and one swim session on the same day for only $15! More pool fun to come!

I would like to see puppy classes at Lucky Dog South on Saturday.

LD - We are working on increasing our classes, especially at South. Hopefully a puppy class on Saturdays will on the agenda at Lucky Dog South soon!

It seems to take a long time for our dogs to be brought to the front at the end of the day.

LD -  We are very aware of this problem, especially at Lucky Dog Central. There are only a few times during the day when lots of folks walk in at once, and the end of the day is the worst. You will notice that we try to enlist help as soon as our waiting room fills, but sometimes, when we have a crowd, it still takes awhile. Some of the folks who pitch in at busy times are office staff, and not as familiar with your dog as our regular runners. Having a name tag on your dog speeds the process!

My dog sometimes has wet feet when I pick her up, and she sometimes smells like pee. What's up with that?

LD- Although we try our best to keep dogs from running through an occasional "pee puddle" it is unavoidable in some cases. If a dog has played in his water bowl in his rest kennel, or if it's raining, snowing etc. we will try to dry or dogs feet (and/or freshen them with some good smelling stuff) before we bring her out. If you notice a smell or paw wetness, please bring it to our attention and we will dry her feet and make them smell like daisies!

I would love to swim with my dog in the Lucky Dog pool. Any chance that I may be able to do that in the future?

LD- We are working on a few ideas for pool now. There may be changes in our pool policies after the new year so stay tuned!
