I can't imagine a life without dogs! My children were raised with five dogs in the house, and one of the dogs was always a rescued foster. When one of our foster dogs would go to a permanent home, my girls learned to say good-bye and let go. They knew another dog was always waiting to be saved.
Our family's love of dogs seems to be genetic, and it starts early. In the picture above my Granddaughter Brooke, only 8 months old, seems perfectly content to have her puppy, "Waffles" asleep on her head.

Rescue me!
9 Lives Rescue brought me all the way from New Mexico (with my 7 puppies) to Lucky Dog, so I could find a forever home. I'm a very excitable girl, but it's hard to raise a family of 7 when you're only 9 months old yourself. Now it's my turn to have someone care for and love me. If you have room for one more at your house, maybe I'm your next best friend. Here are some facts about me:

Mother of 7 - (I took good care of my babies)
I am working with the training apprentices at Lucky Dog Central so I can learn to be a polite and mannerly girl
I was named after the song "Layla" that was playing on the radio when my rescue friend arrived at Lucky Dog.

Meet Astrid Tryon
Astrid is the new pet sitting coordinator for our in-home pet sitting program. A native of Germany, Astrid immigrated to the US 12 years ago with her cats, Bonnie and Clyde.
Astrid has years of animal experience, and has volunteered her time at the "Best Friends Animal Sanctuary" in Utah, a well respected animal refuge. She was also involved in a puppy mill rescue in Sanford, North Carolina which involved the rescue of approximately 400 dogs. Astrid told us her memory of this event, "To have seen these dogs when they came to us, in horrible condition and unsocialized, and watch them blossom was indescribable!"
Astrid has also worked with horses in a therapeutic riding program, and was a professional pet sitter for "Fetch" Pet Sitting in North Carolina.
Astrid began communicating with Lucky Dog prior to her move to Colorado, and the timing was perfect! Her knowledge of animals of all species, along with her fantastic organizational skills has helped us create the Lucky Dog pet sitting program in a professional, caring manner!

Picture Day At Lucky Dog!
Would you like a quality portrait of your dog without having to transport him to a studio and pay a sitting fee? Blue Fox photography is teaming up with Lucky Dog to offer you that chance! On May 27 from 11 AM to 3 PM, Wendy Pearce Nelson and Blue Fox Photography will be at Lucky Dog South (our Janitell Rd location) to photograph your dog while he's at daycare. The nice folks at Blue Fox are offering us "event" prices so you can get a quality picture at a much reduced cost. You will have a choice of an indoor or outdoor shot (weather permitting) and you can view your photo selection online!
Sign up sheets for the photographs are available at both Lucky Dogs. Lucky Dog Central clients must take their dog to our South location for daycare on photo day, but we will have extra staff on hand at that location in preparation for extra dogs. Dogs may also be brought to Lucky Dog South as drop-ins for the photographs, or you may bring your dog and wait for him. Dog's with waiting owners will be photographed on a first come first served basis. We will be sending out a Newsletter "Extra" to remind you of the upcoming photo shoot as the date approaches.

If you think your dog begins shedding due to temperature changes in the Spring, think again. Your dog actually begins "blowing coat" in response to the increased amount of daylight he is experiencing. No matter the reason for shedding, it drives us crazy! Here are a few hints to cut down on shedding and save your sanity.
- Brush and comb your dog's hair frequently
- Offer treats that are rich in antioxidants
- Feed a high quality diet high in fatty acids
- Encourage your dog to drink a lot of water
- Schedule a Furminator treatment with the Lucky Dog groomers - it's worth it!

Come and See Us At Territory Days!
Once again this year Lucky Dog will team up with 92.9 The Peak radio station to sponsor Territory Days in Old Colorado City May 23rd - 25th. Saturday and Sunday hours are 10 AM to 7 PM, and Monday 10 AM to 6 PM; admission is free. Personally, I think this is the most enjoyable event hosted in Colorado Springs! The streets of Old Colorado City come alive during Territory Days with food, music and fun; it's just one big party! Please come and see us next to the 92.9 broadcast booth and say hello. We will be on hand to answer your questions on any of Lucky Dog's services. Hope to see you there!
