Lucky Dog Central is teaming up with the Animal Emergency Care Centers to help you answer these important questions. A no cost Prepared Emergency Animal Kit (PEAK) is available for your precious pet. The kit includes:

* Wallet card with your pet's information that   will speed the triage and admitting process in an emergency

* Important emergency contact information

* Personalized directions from your home to the Animal Emergency Care Centers

*Important emergency preparedness recommendations

*Emergency information folder to keep all of your pet's records

You also will receive a quarterly e-Newsletter from the Animal Emergency Care Centers, access to priority missing pet and lost pet recovery programs, and free pet blood typing!

How It Works
Enroll your pet(s) free of charge with the forms available at Lucky Dog. Bring your completed forms back to Lucky Dog or drop off at the Animal Emergency Care Center North at 5520 N. Nevada Ave., Suite 150.

1. A photograph will be taken of your pet and a small sample of blood will be drawn by a veterinary technician (this can be accomplished  while your dog is at daycare). Your pet's blood will be typed and all information will be added to our emergency database.

2. Your completed Peak package will be delivered to you via Lucky Dog.

When a Cough is Not a Cough

Shih Tsu

Reverse sneezing (mechanosensitive aspiration reflex)is a name given to a spasm-like snorting that affects a certain percentage of our dog population. The dog experiencing the reverse sneeze seems to be snorting air backward into his nose rather than pushing air out, like a regular sneeze. During the reverse sneeze the dog's eyes may bulge, his head is usually shot forward and his elbows may be turned out. You may think something is caught in your dog's throat and/or imagine that he is suffocating during these episodes. Usually the snorting lasts less than a minute, and seldom longer than two minutes.

We don't really know what causes reverse sneezing, but it may be triggered by allergies or nasal inflammation. Any aged dog or breed can be affected. These episodes do not harm your dog in anyway, and massaging his throat, giving him something to eat or drink, or gently pulling his tongue forward may stop the sneeze.

One word of warning. A reverse sneeze is a rapid intake of breath and does not usually cause the dog to vomit or produce mucous from his mouth or nose. If you notice these symptoms and the noise is cough-like, you may have a sick dog! Please keep him away from other dogs and see your vet immediately.
A New Weekend Groomer for  Lucky Dog Central!

Alicia Patin is Lucky Dog Central's new weekend groomer. Alicia attended grooming school in Las Vegas and has been grooming dogs and cats for 10 years. She is a skilled Bichon Frise groomer and has won awards at "SuperZoo" (an international grooming show) in 2004 and 2006. One of her "SuperZoo" judges was Joey from the Animal Planet Show "Groomer Has It!"
Alicia will also groom your cat (at either our South or Central location) and is particularly good with fearful, stressed out or aggressive dogs! Call for an appointment with Alicia today at 599-9663!

(We didn't catch up to Alicia in time for a picture. Watch for it soon on our website!)

What Do These.......
 Carrots

Have to Do With Your Dog?
Did you know that carrots are great for dogs, and that most dogs love them (if you don't believe us watch the *"Carrot" video under Quicklinks above).

Beginning February 10th, Lucky Dog will offer an alternative to our already popular Kong lunch - the organic carrot snack. Each carrot snack will be cut into an appropriate size for the dog and will cost just 50 cents per snack. We will of course still offer our Kong lunch choice as well.
*Please note that our carrot treat will be offered as an individual snack and NOT in a group mode.
Did you know that feeding your dog a quality food can increase the length of his life and save you money on vet bills?  Some canine nutritionists even link the feeding of poor quality foods to certain canine and feline cancers. When you take all this into consideration, your super market brand no longer seems like a bargain! One of these brands (come to me personally and I'll give you the name) has been found to have traces of the drug used to euthanize pets.....unbelievable!

As a service to our clients, Lucky Dog is increasing our line of dog and cat foods and treats. Let us know about your dog's food preference by filling out our client inquiry form at either Lucky Dog location, and we'll see what we can do about getting you a good food at a great price! For those of you feeding the supermarket brands, now is a good time to increase the quality of your dog's food by feeding him "Precise". Precise is an excellent food and we have several bags that give you 10% more - free!  Take advantage of the coupon below to save even more. Also available for your cat in seafood flavor (my cat went nuts over it!), and canned variety.

If you're a Natural Balance customer go to naturalbalanceinc.com and join the Natural Balance Club. You will occasionally receive the Natural Balance Newsletter with a coupon for their excellent food.

Another great food is Wellness, and because several clients informed us that they feed this terrific brand, we will now be carrying it at both Lucky Dogs! Look for upcoming coupons in our Newsletter.
