Dear SS United States Conservancy Members & Supporters:
Since our National Flagship Celebration in Philadelphia earlier this month, the SS United States Conservancy has been working hard to take full advantage of the opportunity provided by Philadelphia
philanthropist H.F. (Gerry) Lenfest. As we announced on July 1st, Mr. Lenfest has pledged up to $5.8 million to the SS
United States Conservancy. These funds will be used to purchase the vessel from
its current owner, Norwegian Cruise Line/Genting Hong Kong and maintain the ship
in its current berth for up to 20 months while redevelopment plans are
solidified. To read the Conservancy's media advisory containing the key details
on this important development, please CLICK HERE.
If you were unable to attend the Conservancy's National Flagship Celebration in Philadelphia, we encourage you to view the excellent video summaries prepared by both the Conservancy and by Bill Magee from MageeMedia. The Conservancy's video on Vimeo is HERE. MageeMedia's video on Vimeo is HERE. Mr. Lenfest's donation provided a desperately-needed stay of execution for the SS United States, and now the Conservancy is hard at work identifying prospective partners for its possible redevelopment plans. The
Conservancy is currently considering several scenarios in Philadelphia and New York. Please see the announcement below for an exciting event scheduled for Saturday, July 24, in New York City: A guided tugboat tour of some potential future berthing sites for the Big U!
The clock is ticking, and despite the SS United States' recent reprieve, the fate of our national flagship still hangs in the balance. As always, we are so grateful to all of the Conservancy's members and Plank Owners for their steadfast and sustained support! With our best wishes, SS United States Conservancy Board of Directors

HISTORIC NEW YORK CITY TUGBOAT TOUR NEXT SATURDAY!

The Conservancy's executive director, Dan McSweeney, and the Conservancy's real

contextual remarks on possible plans for bringing the Big U to New
York. During a break in the tour, guests will be able to spend time on
Governors Island, observing City of Water Day events.
Space is limited to 26. This will be a very memorable event and we're
likely to reach capacity very quickly. Please let us know if you'd
like to attend as soon as possible.

PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR KEEPING SS UNITED STATES IN PHILLY
|
| The Philadelphia Inquirer has pledged its support for keeping the SS United States in Philadelphia! The newspaper's editorial board weighed in on the subject of the SS United States on its opinion page on July 13. The Inquirer stated, "With Mayor Nutter's plan to transform much of the central Delaware River
into a residential, commercial, and recreation destination, the
conversion of the SS United States into a visitor attraction also would
serve as the perfect bridge to the waterfront's past as an industrial
port." Read it HERE.
On July 8, the Philadelphia Inquirer published an excellent editorial by the Conservancy's Executive Director Dan McSweeney. It's HERE.
Also on July 8, the Inquirer published another supportive editorial on the SS United States by Joan Aitken and David B. Brownlee, co-chairs of the Design Advocacy Group. Read it HERE.
