|
Your Input is needed. Please attend the Zoning Code Rewrite Charrette on Tuesday, February 9th - 9:00 am -10:30 am.
Dear Chamber Members,
You have been reading about the Zoning Code Rewrite that the City is engaged in. It is important for you to attend the charrette on Tuesday, February 9th at 9:00 am so you that you can give your input. Part of what will be included in this charrette will be the city's signage ordinance which will be changed along with the zoning code. This is your chance to be involved in those changes.
The zoning code affects your business in ways you may not have thought of:
- Will your business ever be interested in expanding?
- Is signage and issue for your business?
- Is your market the local residents and employees of other Fitchburg Businesses?
If you answered yes to any of these questions than you should participate in the Zoning Code Rewrite Charrette. You should participate in deciding how our community will develop for the next few decades.
There are two sessions that should be of particular interest to Fitchburg Businesses and we encourage you to attend. We have highlighted those in the following agenda for the week. All of the workshops take place at City Hall.
Opening Public Workshop Monday, February 8, 6-7:30 pm This evening will consist of a 30-minute presentation to explain the process and goals of the charrette, along with what a form-based code (FBC) is all about. Afterward, the public will be asked to participate in a visioning workshop to shape the form of future development in Fitchburg.
Focus Groups Tuesday and Wednesday, February 9 and 10 Smaller focus group discussions will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday on a variety of subjects, including Development Community Summit, Chamber & Business Community, Civic Groups, DNR / CAPRC, Utilities, Parks and Open Space, Transportation, Schools, FUDA Landowners, and Farming Community.

Help Build the Fitchburg Library in 2010
Are you ready to help build the Fitchburg Library? There have been a lot of people that have worked hard to bring a library to Fitchburg, but the work has just begun and you can help create one of the City's most important civic contributions to date.
The photo to the right is Oak Bank's contribution to help build the library, $35,000. Terry Taylor and Bob Gorsuch presented the check to Library Board Chairperson, Phil Sveum in October of last year.
In April, 2010, the City of Fitchburg will break ground on its first-ever public library. When completed in mid-2011, this 38,000 square foot building will be THE place to connect in Fitchburg. This new generation library will provide resources and assistance in a way that reflects the changing role of libraries in our lives. The library building will have a hillside presence in the community, situated at the corner of Lacy Road and Research Park Drive, by the City Hall-Senior Center. Its location will permit easy entry from the street and the City Hall parking lot, as well as underground parking. The new city plaza created by the library space will serve as a gathering area for residents. Sustainable building practices with intelligent design and careful construction oversight will assure long-term energy and operational savings. The timelessness of the building and the immediacy of the library world will be seamless, defining "library services" in new ways. Children and teens will delight in kid-friendly environments complete with computer access and meeting space for activities. Adults will look to the library as a destination for pleasure reading, research, computer access and social interaction. Technology will be used throughout the library to provide an array of services to each patron and streamline library operating costs. Wi-Fi connectivity, power outlets, a computerized catalogue, roaming librarians, self-checkout machines and automated return systems are part of the plan. Meeting space will help create the social connections needed in an ever-changing world. Private study rooms, larger spaces and a community room with kitchen facilities will be available, some after-hours. The meeting spaces will be equipped for FACTv production and broadcasting, and the Library will become the new home of the Fitchburg Historical Society and the Friends of the Fitchburg Library. A public-private funding partnership testifies to broad support. The City of Fitchburg will provide $10 million for design and construction costs of the building. Thanks to the City's excellent financial standing, bonding for the $10 million is able to take advantage of the federal "Build America" bond program. The computers, furniture and shelving, and opening day collection of materials-things that will transform a civic building into a library-will be paid for with private donations. A Capital Campaign to raise an additional $4 million from private grants and gifts will ensure that the doors of our 21st Century library will open with pride and be ready to serve our community. To get involved, make a donation or for more information, check out the Capital Campaign website: www.fitchburgcitylibrary.com , or contact one of the Campaign Co-chairs: Phil Sveum, psveum@cbsuccessrealty.com or Marykay Zimbrick, mkzimbrick@aol.com
