By April of each year, Niner is fully immersed in demo season. Not only do our trucks travel the USA, but with the assistance of our distributors we host events around the world - this past weekend we had events in Ohio, Arizona, Colorado and Italy! Carla was at the Fruita Fat Tire Festival and took time between the morning and lunch rushes to document some of the action: 

RDO COMPONENTS

THE NEW RDO STEM

The RDO stem is a perfect example of this effort - a beautifully simple piece pared down to race-ready essentials. Light and stiff with a tested and true 4-bolt faceplate and stainless black hardware, the RDO stem is exactly what the modern race bike needs and nothing more. Why not carbon? At Niner we certainly love the material but it just didn't make sense for this application when aluminum does the job so well. Strength and stiffness are perfect and weight is a satisfying 115g. Available in all four RDO colors and a glossy black finish to match our complete RDO component lineup.

29ER SPECIFIC: IMPORTANT IN COMPONENTS, TOO

We at Niner make a big deal about our geometry - our bikes are original 29er geometry, not 26 inch geometry adapted to 29. We believe that this is a big part of why we are known for our ride quality. When it comes to components, we want to work with companies that have the same standard, which is why we have spec'd Schwalbe tires in all of our build kits.

The challenges involved in creating a 29er tire are easy to see in the graphic below. The 29er contact patch is considerably longer than that of a 26" tire, so the tread must be designed specifically to ensure the knobs contact the ground in the same way.

Just like Niner frame geometry is optimized for big wheels, Schwalbe 29er tires aren't simply the same tread manufactured on a larger casing. They are designed and tested to take full advantage of the 29er platform.

IMBA - NINERDS PULL TOGETHER
Recently on our facebook page, we told the story of a trail system lost to legal wrangling and unofficial handshake deals. It was a great illustration of why we need groups like IMBA - who not only build trail but also do the tedious legal legwork to make sure that the trails we build are protected by the landowners, whether that is the DNR, the BLM or a combo of public and private. What happened after we told this story is another story on its own - the Facebook Ninerds stepped up and tripled the daily IMBA online memberships, often at levels far above the minimum. 

To all the great people who joined IMBA that day, thanks for showing that Ninerds as a group are thoughtful, friendly and have the forethought to know we need to protect, legalize and build trails, no matter where in the world we live.
