One of the dirty secrets of working in the bike industry is that summer is a crazy time - while most everyone is out riding, we are putting the finishing touches on new products, attending demo events and working with our dealers during their busy season. It is no surprise that we all really look forward to autumn, when we can get a lot of miles in again, and go to those places that we didn't get to yet this season.
This year, as a bit of a break from the usual, we decided to take the entire company camping in Moab. We have a lot of friends there already, and with the help of Western Spirit, knew we could have 4 days of good meals (that we didn't have to cook!), quality campfire time and of course, amazing riding.
With only your typical Moab injuries (thanks to Kali Protectives) and only one minor route-finding incident (okay, it was a bit more than minor, heh!) it can only be called a massive success.
Our fearless photographer, Michael Darter was on hand to get some shots of the W.F.O 9, R.I.P. 9 and Jet 9 RDO in action and to get the vibe around the campfire. As you may have noticed in the pics above - a lot of us were riding W.F.O. 9 frames with Fox 34 forks on our recent trip to Moab. The 140mm of travel combined with efficient CVA suspension was the killer app in terrain that went every direction except flat. The Fox 34 has been exactly what we were hoping for - it unleashes the true potential of a longer travel 29er.

We all love to ride hard and to progress our skills, and a favorite saying around Niner is "wear what you want to crash in". Well, we can't think of a better thing to wear than Kali's helmets and pads.
The whole Niner crew, including our demo and race programs, will be sporting Kali Avita, Amara and Chakra helmets and Aazis knee and elbow protection for 2011-2012.
As Jordan is demonstrating in the pic below - you can't go big without going wrong sometimes. It is great to have a company like Kali looking out for us!

It's been a while since we have produced such a bumper crop of new clothing items. We've just added seven T-shirts and four hats to the store and to say there's something for everyone is an understatement. We bet there are three or four new goodies that you would be happy to add to your Niner wardrobe to protect yourself from harmful nudity. Wait, you do have a Niner wardrobe, don't you?

'We get a fair number of calls from folks asking about the many BB systems out there. We agree that it can be pretty confusing.
BB30 systems
The various BB30 systems are named for the diameter of the crank spindle. Compared to the standard 24mm spindle, a 30mm spindle can be made from aluminum rather than steel and offers increased stiffness with lower weight. Larger sealed cartridge bearings can offer increased durability over smaller units. The larger BB shell works well with purpose-shaped frame tubes that contribute greatly to frame strength.
SRAM's PF30 (Press Fit 30)
Niner's Jet 9 RDO and new Air 9 frames use SRAM's PF30. This system is not only light and stiff, it is also very easy to install. The PF30 bottom bracket uses nylon bearing cups that press into a 46mm bottom bracket shell. PF30 is compatible with any BB30 MTB crankset without adapters or modification.
Compatibility
What if you don't want to buy a BB30 crankset? SRAM offers an adapter that inserts in the PF30 shell and allows the installation of a standard threaded external cup bottom bracket. This adapter is compatible with standard threaded Shimano, SRAM/Truvativ GXP, FSA and Race Face bottom brackets and 24mm spindle cranksets. Your Niner dealer can order this adapter from any SRAM distributor.

It was with sadness that we noted the passing of Ronette Espinoza, the late wife of MTB and MX magazine legend Zap Espinoza and mother of Xakota. Niner extends our sympathies to Ronette's friends and and family, who have organized a November group ride in her memory, find more info about the ride here and here. Proceeds from this ride go to the family. We encourage Niner riders in the SoCal area to participate and support them.Pro

Bike Works is exactly the kind of dealer we are proud to associate with. In a college town it can be hard to find a shop centered on community and family, so this is what the 4 owners of Bike Works (Tony, Dawn, David and Barry), set out to do. They go out of their way to make folks feel at home - leather sofas, bar stools, and open seating at the repair station are designed so you can watch and learn, and enjoy the company of other riders.
Since they opened a year ago, Bike Works has fostered group rides, repair classes and a lot of informal beer socials at their shop.
