Back in 2004, Niner co-founder Steve Domahidy never thought that he would find himself on a mountain bike ride with a former President of the United States, but that is just what happened last week after Steve and Chris Sugai, Niner's other founder, received an interesting call from Kennebunkport Bicycle Company, a Niner Dealer in Maine.
"It turns out that Former President Bush is intrigued by 29ers, so he asked Brandon at Kennebunkport Bike Company about Niner" said Steve. Chris and Steve spent Thursday and Friday last week with Mr. Bush, fitting a new Niner Jet 9 full suspension bike in Black Anodized.
"We are glad that Mr. Bush wanted to ride a Niner. He has been an avid rider for years and helping him to make the leap to 29 inch mountain bike wheels is a privilege." said Chris. "We had the opportunity to discuss trails and trailbuilding after the ride. No matter how you weigh in politically, this is good for mountain biking," Steve added.
In addition to delivering the new bikes, the group spent two days mountain biking on the trails around Kennebunkport. Said Chris, "Mr. Bush is a very good rider, fast and with good technical skills. He certainly knew the local trails really well, and Steve and I had to work pretty hard. It was a lot of fun."

As announced on our Facebook page two weeks ago, we are changing the S.I.R. 9 colors in our next production run. Those of you who love the Solid Gold and the Rootbeer have a limited amount of time left to grab a S.I.R. 9 in either of those colors, because the new Kermit Green and Moondust bikes are on their way! Our own Drew Rohde, technical service guy, and his friend Colby Weber, raced the BC Bike Race this summer and brought Scott Toepher along with them to take pics.
Drew rode a R.I.P. 9 and Colby was on a Jet 9 for this 7-day, 390km XC epic. The distances required an efficient, fast bike and the technical challenges demanded a bike that excelled in challenging single track. Both guys were stoked on their choices for the race.
For the race, Drew's R.I.P. 9 was set up with SRAM Elixir brakes, Sram XO drivetrain, Noir cranks, Fox F29RL fork and he sends a big thanks to Easton for the Haven wheels, and the radical Haven carbon bars and stem. This set up allowed Drew to hammer when he needed to, and to hit the fun lines when he had the chance. Colby, who is more of an XC-racing type, ran XX on his Jet 9, with a 100mm Reba.

After the race, the guys took some time to ride Whistler's famous lift-served trails and Scott got some great shots of Drew on the W.F.O. 9, including the beauty above on the Blue Velvet woodwork. Drew's park Niner was equipped with a Reba 140mm (available from your Niner Dealer), DHX rear, Stan's Flow wheels, XO drivetrain, Sunline bar and a Crank Bros Joplin seatpost.

Introducing Drew "Drewbacca" Rohde.
Modeling t-shirts for our Niner store is only a part time gig for Niner's employee, his day job includes helping Niner riders from all over the globe with technical questions and challenges. Drew is the guy you get when you have questions about bike set-up or features...
Drew's current stable of bikes includes a W.F.O. 9, a R.I.P. 9 and a One 9, and if he could take them anywhere it would be back to the trails of British Columbia, Canada, where he would motor through the woods as fast as he can go. Drew's personal soundtrack mostly includes Muddy Waters, Zeke,The Supersuckers and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Drew's best advice is to get your suspension set up correctly. Don't just tune it your weight, tune it for your specific desired ride performance - an 170lb person racing XC is going to want a different suspension feel than a 170lb person who spends their time riding rock gardens and technical terrain.
