The U.S. Department of the Treasury has invited United Way of Fresno County back to Washington D.C. for an invitation only convening to share best practices from the successful Bank on Fresno Initiative. The convening titled, Expanding Financial Access through Innovative Community Initiatives: Promising Practices from the Bank on Field is sponsored in part by the National League of Cities' Institute for Youth, Education, and Families and will take place on July 29 and 30, 2010.
Our very own Patricia A. Clary, President/CEO United Way of Fresno County, along with fellow attendees will join national experts and practitioners to learn about promising practices and lessons learned in financial access and Bank On Initiatives, and share with policy makers the challenges and successes of efforts to date. Fresno has been on the forefront in establishing several 'best practices' that include use of a "Matchmaking" approach for financial education, use of public service announcements in 13 languages and use of social media websites to connect with the online community.
The Bank on Fresno Initiative is supported by both the Office of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Office of Mayor Ashley Swearengin. Bank on Fresno is a strategy of United Way's Financial Stability Program that helps residents maximize income, build savings, and gain and sustain assets.
