Collaborative Meeting |
|
United Way of Fresno County convened an informative meeting to discuss the creation of a family-friendly center for low to moderate individuals and families to access financial resources and education by bringing together nonprofit, business and government partners to offer integrated, complementary services in one convenient location. The center would provide services such as free volunteer income tax preparation for low-income workers; financial education classes; credit, mortgage and foreclosure counseling; workforce development; and home-ownership workshops provided by community-based organizations who are experts in their fields.
Darryl Rutherford Regional Manager, San Joaquin Valley Community Development, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco facilitated the meeting of potential partners.

2010 Day of Action |
|
Monday, June 21st was our 2nd annual 2010 Day of Action at United Way of Fresno County. From 8am to 5pm local companies, community organizations and individuals dropped off new and gently used books at the United Way of Fresno County office to be donated to the Central Valley Book Bank. Volunteers from the community came out to help count, clean and box books. We were also joined by a group of volunteers from HandsOn Central California who assisted in passing out hot dogs and snow cones, and the children were able to have their faces painted by a member of the United Way staff. We had a great response from the community. There were over 3000 books dropped off during the 2010 Day of Action and more will be coming in throughout the next week. We are still shy of our goal but with continued support we can reach the amount of books needed to help provide children in our community the ability to enjoy the gift of reading. It's never too late to donate your new and gently used books, we will gladly accept your donations Monday - Friday, 9am to 4pm here at the United Way of Fresno County office.
