This year-end newsletter from Casting for Recovery offers us the opportunity to thank all our friends, to report on some significant accomplishments for this year, and to give our friends a preview for the New Year. We are happy to report that:
- Casting for Recovery delivered a record number of retreat programs to women in need of our services. 42 programs were conducted from March through November in 27 states.
- The increased number of women we served this year is directly related to our enhanced training and support for our talented and dedicated volunteers: we conducted training programs in nine states this year.
- We launched our first-ever online auction to extend support outside the CFR community.
- We added a recurring donation option to our website.
- We enhanced outreach by adding online retreat and volunteer applications to our website.
- Women across the United States continued to raise their voices to celebrate the hope and healing the CFR program brought them. The following is just a sample of the many emails, cards, and notes we received:
"What a magnificent, joyous, spectacular weekend you provided. Thank you so much for the pleasure of the fly-fishing experience, for new learning, for new friendships, for our camaraderie! What a wonderful program! My grateful thanks to your splendid organization, to your national and local sponsors, and to everyone who made this possible."
- The "Ripple Effect" that Casting for Recovery has had on the lives of women, their families, friends, and communities is now celebrated in a powerful brochure, donated through the generosity of a family foundation.
Looking ahead to 2010:
- The impact of Casting for Recovery continues to extend worldwide, as we anticipate the launch of a sister organization serving women in New Zealand in 2010.
- We will add four new programs and extend service into three additional states: New Mexico, Florida, and South Carolina.
- We look to develop future programs in southern California, Wyoming, Utah, and Georgia as we move towards our goal of expanding service to all 50 states.
- We proudly sustain strong relationships with national partners, including our premier national supporter, The Hartford, and we welcome Brookdale Senior Living, West Division, as a new national sponsor.
- We look forward to being honored with the Heritage Award from the American Museum of Fly Fishing on April 29, 2010.
- We remain committed to a strong focus on becoming a preeminent breast cancer support organization.
Over 500 women a day are diagnosed with breast cancer, and though advances in treatment continue, now, more than ever, the life-changing program we provide can help women moving forward to hope and healing. Our goal is to ensure that more women can benefit from the CFR experience.
We continue to be thankful for the benevolence of organizations like our founding sponsor Orvis and the many individual and organizational benefactors who continue to support our mission. We thank all our friends for their continued support, and extend best wishes for the New Year.
