2012 Legislative Wrap-Up Released
2012 Legislative Wrap-Up Rhode Island KIDS COUNT recently released our 2012 Legislative Wrap-Up. The Wrap-Up highlights laws and budget appropriations passed by the General Assembly during the 2012 legislative session that affect the well-being of children and families in Rhode Island.

Health victories for children include:
  • Dental services for parents and pregnant women with RIte Care coverage were maintained.
  • Health insurance coverage for treatment for children with autism was improved.
RIte Smiles Survey Results Announced
RIte Smiles Dental Program
RIte Smiles Member Satisfaction Survey shows that over 95% of parents whose children are RIte Smiles members are satisfied with the services provided by their child's dentist.

RIte Smiles is Rhode Island's managed oral health program for children under age 12 with Medicaid coverage, which is administered by UnitedHealthcare Dental. Since RIte Smiles began, the number of dentists who treat children with Medicaid coverage has increased from 90 to 370.

New Report on Children's Emergency Department Visits for Oral Health Conditions
Smiling girl The RI Department of Health released a new report on children who are treated for dental problems at hospital emergency rooms in Rhode Island.

Rhode Island Children's Hospital Emergency Department Visits for Oral Health Conditions 
shows that 5,460 children's visits to emergency rooms were due to dental problems from 2006 through 2010.
