New Issue Brief on Rhode Island Children in Immigrant Families

Rhode Island KIDS COUNT released its latest Issue Brief - Rhode Island Children in Immigrant Families - at a policy roundtable event on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. The Issue Brief is a new source for data that includes information on the number of children who live in immigrant families, their economic well-being and access to health care, early learning, and education.

2012 Legislative Wrap-Up
Rhode Island KIDS COUNT recently released our 2012 Legislative Wrap-Up. The Wrap-Up highlights legislative victories for children and summarizes selected laws and budget appropriations in the areas of economic well-being, health, safety, child care and early childhood education, and K-12 education that were considered during the 2012 Rhode Island General Assembly session.

2012 KIDS COUNT Data BookAccording to the Annie E. Casey Foundation's 2012 KIDS COUNT Data Book, Rhode Island ranks 25th in the nation in overall child well-being. Key findings for Rhode Island include: 
  • Rhode Island ranks 9th best in the U.S. for the teen birth rate.
  • Rhode Island ranks 10th best in the U.S. for child and teen death rate. 
  • Nearly half of Rhode Island children live in households with high housing cost burdens.
