2012 Rhode Island Kids Count Factbook Released |
On Monday, April 2, 2012, Rhode Island KIDS COUNT released its 18th annual report on the well-being of Rhode Island's children at a policy breakfast attended by over 500 people, including Governor Lincoln Chafee, the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation, General Assembly leaders, community leaders and policymakers from education, health and human services.
The 2012 Rhode Island Kids Count Factbook charts improvements and declines in the well-being of children and youth across the state and in each of Rhode Island's 39 cities and towns and provides the latest available statistics on 67 different aspects of children's lives, from birth through adolescence.

Autism Lecture to Focus on Early Detection and Intervention |
Dr. Geraldine Dawson, Chief Science Officer of Autism Speaks, will be the keynote speaker at the 2012 Lipsitt-Duchin Lecture on Child and Youth Behavior Development, sponsored by Brown University's Center for the Study of Human Development and Rhode Island KIDS COUNT. In her presentation, Dr. Dawson will discuss the state of science surrounding autism and future directions in early detection and intervention, with a focus on the infant-toddler period.

Child Care Awareness Day to be Held Next Week |
The Permanent Legislative Commission on Child Care is hosting its 1st Annual Child Care Day at the Rhode Island State House on Thursday, April 12, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the speaking program beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Rotunda.
The event will highlight Rhode Island organizations and programs that provide high-quality care and education to children and will inform the public about the work of the Permanent Legislative Commission on Child Care.
Representative Grace Diaz, Chairwoman of the Commission, will lead the speaking program, which will be followed by a children's presentation.
