New Issue Brief Released on
Juvenile Justice in Rhode Island |
Rhode Island KIDS COUNT released its latest Issue Brief entitled Juvenile Justice in Rhode Island, at a policy roundtable at the Rhode Island Training School, Youth Development Center on July 24, 2009. The Issue Brief contains comprehensive data on the juvenile justice system in Rhode Island, including information about youth referred to Rhode Island Family Court, youth at the Training School and trends in the types of offenses committed by youth. The Issue Brief also provides a series of recommendations for preventing youth involvement in the juvenile justice system, alternatives to incarceration, and other strategies to improve youth outcomes. Rhode Island ranks 15th best in the nation, up from 21st last year, for overall child well-being based on an index of 10 key indicators tracked in the 2009 National KIDS COUNT Data Book, released by the Annie E. Casey Foundation on July 28, 2009. The report also highlights the work of Rhode Island KIDS COUNT and calls for a "data revolution" to track progress and improve the lives of vulnerable kids.
