From the Executive Director Greetings! In like a lion and out like a lamb. Isn't that what they say about March? Well it doesn't seem so this year...and that's just fine by me and I think many others. Though we've had a mild winter, I think everyone is still ready for some spring weather and the opportunity to get outdoors. Speaking of getting out, the Chamber has a few events coming up that should prompt folks to come out and meet and greet fellow members, promote your businesses and perhaps meet a few potential new customers. On March 28, The Upper Shore Chapter of SCORE will be presenting the Demographic's of Kent County from the 2010 Census at a breakfast to be held at the Holiday Inn in Chestertown. (See details in this Newsletter.) Join us and find out what these numbers mean to the future of Kent County and the future of your business. The Post-Session Legislative Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, April 17 at Heron Point. This is where you will be able to hear directly from the 36th District Legislators as to what has transpired during this year's General Assembly and how it will affect your business, including a Q&A session. And of course, don't forget our New Members Breakfast on April 26. This event allows all of our new members to introduce themselves and their businesses. It also gives long-time Chamber members an opportunity to meet our newest members and exchange ideas. This is always an enjoyable and informative event, and worthwhile to anyone who attends.
So mark your calendars now for these upcoming events. Remember, you get out of your Chamber membership only as much as you put into it. Happy St. Paddy's Day!
Loretta

Chesapeake College _______________________________________________________________________________ February 28, 2012 Contact: Marci Leach,Director of Continuing Education and Workforce Training Phone: 410-827-5833 E-mail: mleach@chesapeake.edu COLLEGE TO OFFER REGISTERED YOGA TEACHER AND ADVANCED YOGA TRAINING (WYE MILLS, MD) - Registration is now open for Chesapeake College's accredited Registered Yoga Teacher Training program. This program, offered partnership with the Every Body Yoga Studio, is currently the only registered yoga school on Maryland's Eastern Shore. This training is for community members who would like to become accredited Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT) or for anyone who would like to study advanced yoga techniques for their own personal enrichment. The accreditation is through the Yoga Alliance®, the national education and support organization for yoga in the United States and is based on extensive experience, thorough understanding of all 8 limbs of yoga, safety and the dedication to serve others. The goal of developing standards for yoga teacher training is to ensure that yoga teacher training is conducted by well-qualified and professionally trained teachers who understand the benefits of yoga, value its history and traditions and provide consistent quality instruction while ensuring safety. The next Registered Yoga Teacher Training program begins in April 2012. Participants meet one weekend per month for nine months to complete the required 200 hours of training. In addition, reading, homework, observation of other teachers and student teaching is required. Class size is limited to allow for individualized instruction. The program instructor, Phyllis Johnston, M. Ed., E-RYT, has been studying yoga for more than 24 years and teaching on the mid-shore for 12 years. Her extensive experience earned her the distinguished "experienced registered yoga teacher" designation by the Yoga Alliance® for practitioners who can train other teachers. For more information or to register, contact Marci Leach by calling 410-827-5833 or email to mleach@chesapeake.edu. |

Realtors(R) Rally to Save MD's Mortgage Interest Deduction
Hundreds of REALTORS and homeowners weathered a Maryland rainstorm on February 29 to turnout for the SaveMdMID.org Rally on Lawyers' Mall in Annapolis, immediately in front of the State House. In a sea of umbrellas in a soaking rain, they expressed their opposition to the proposed reduction in Mortgage Interest and property tax deductions in the Budget Bill currently before the General Assembly. Maryland is the first state in the U.S. to consider reducing the mortgage interest and property tax deductions.
More than 20 Realtors from the Bay Area Association of REALTORS(R) attended the Rally to voice their opposition and protect the deductions for property owners in Kent, Queen Anne's and Caroline Counties.
BAAR Realtors(R) pictured above include (left to right): Donna Owens, BAAR President Dick Sells, BAAR Association Executive Fran Long, Bill Ruckelshaus, Sue Hitt and Paula Ruckelshaus.
Additional information on the Rally can be found on www.mdrealtor.org.
