Happy Holidays Tree

From the Executive Director

Seasons Greetings to All:

The holiday season has arrived and appears to be in full swing.  The Chamber will be celebrating with our annual Christmas Gala on Wednesday, December 7.  This year's event will be held at the Fish Whistle restaurant in downtown Chestertown, hosted by Jeff and Betty Carroll and their staff. We've had a tremendous response this year.  Door prizes have been graciously donated by a dozen of our members and it promises to be a wonderful event.  Unfortunately, we are at our limit and cannot accept any more reservations for this year's party, but keep this annual event in mind for next year.

A big thank you goes out to Jon Coile and Patsy Whiteley, and their associates and staff at Champion Realty for hosting a very successful Business-After-Hours in November.  Admission was a donation for our local food pantry.  We had a great turn-out with new, old, and potential members.  Again, I cannot emphasize enough what great networking opportunities these events are.  Sure they're fun and there is always good food and drink, but the networking aspect cannot be overlooked.  Nothing beats a face-to-face meeting with a potential customer or referral.

In November we rolled out our new "Proud Member" Logo exclusively for our Chamber members.  The logo, which was sent to all of our members electronically, can be used for just about any advertising or promotion for your business; an added value that we know will help grow your customer base. So use this logo in your business print ads, direct mail, business cards, websites, email blasts, promotional items and anywhere you want your client base to know that you are proud to be a member of the Kent County Chamber of Commerce.

The 2012 Chamber of Commerce Kent County Map project is about to be put to bed.  We have, however, extended the deadline for advertising in the Map to December 15.  The rates are very reasonable, especially considering the extended shelf life and the distribution of the Map through the Chamber, the Visitors Center, the Department of Tourism & Economic Development and local businesses.  So if you have not placed your ad yet, now is the time to do so, by sending me an email or giving me a call at the Chamber office.

January will bring the first Legislative Breakfast of the year on January 9 at Heron Point and the Annual Excellence in Business Awards celebration on January 27 at the Prince Theatre.  Nominations for the latter have been received and will be posted in January.  So mark your calendars and look for the invitations coming to your inbox soon!

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a wonderful, safe, and happy holiday season!!

Loretta

SENIOR DISCOUNTS
IN KENT COUNTY

Approximately three years ago, the Kent County Chamber of Commerce and the Kent County Commission on Aging collaborated to develop a brochure, listing discounts available for seniors.  At that time over 50 local businesses participated.  We realize that this document needs updating since several new businesses have opened and some have closed.  In order to complete this task, we need your assistance!

Providing discounts for seniors, even if it is only one day a week, can increase your retail sales and will help our older residents financially.

If you would like to participate in this project, please send the following information by January 13, 2012 to:

Dear BBB Accredited Business:

The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) Office of Boards and Commissions has designed a short survey to help the State better understand the needs of the small business community.

BBB invites you to participate in the short survey on behalf of the Commission. The greater the participation of businesses like yours, the greater the value of the data. The information collected through the survey will be used to help support Maryland's small business community.

The survey is anonymous and while participation is voluntary, your assistance is very much appreciated!
