   We've got new businesses springing up all over and we'll be celebrating many of them in April. This month we welcome Cross Street Realtors and Gabriels in Chestertown. We'll also celebrate the opening of River Rock on the Harbor in Rock Hall. It's great to see so many new and expanding businesses in Kent County.
   Speaking of Ribbon Cuttings, BIG THANK YOU to Chamber Past President, GeorgJean Zimmerman who presented us with a new pair of engraved scissors for Ribbon Cuttings. Come out to our April 2 Ribbon Cutting at Gabriels of Chestertown to check them out!
   April is also time to start thinking about greening your business. Our April 15 Business Breakfast Workshop, Greening Your Business to Improve your Bottom Line features a panel of local experts talking about efficiency improvements for your business that offer great returns on your investment. Don't miss this workshop.
   Our April Mixer is a 75th birthday celebration at our own Chester River Hospital. Join us on April 22 for lots of great networking and birthday cake.
   Finally, by now you know our search is on for a new Executive Director. We've received lots of great resumes and we look forward to finding someone who can make our Chamber even better! We'll keep you posted on our search.

Shore Health System's employees from Memorial Hospital at Easton donated $24,341 to the 2009 United Fund and United Way campaigns. The donations benefit agencies that provide services to needy citizens in Talbot, Caroline, Queen Anne's and Kent Counties.
 
Shore Health System also has been awarded two grants from the Maryland Affiliate ofthe Susan G. Komen for the Cure. $71,000 to Shore Regional Breast Center for the STEPS to Breast Health Services on the Mid-Shore". $38,627 the first installment in a two-year grant for Clinical Research Affiliates Funding Trials (CRAFT).
 
Town of Chestertown offers informational sessions on home and garden practices that are environmentally friendly:
  • April 13: Affordable Solar Energy for the Home
  • May 18: Rain Gardens & Native Plants
All sessions are 7:00-8:00pm at the town office. Look for more to follow.
