Fanciful miniature cake     Fanciful or realistic? Modern or traditional? Sophisticated or rustic?
     You're sure to find hand-crafted items to marvel over at the Showcase of Miniatures, the largest and most prestigious miniature show west of the Mississippi.
     You'll be amazed by the skill, patience, and artistry of the 100+ vendors and the creators of many elegant, homey, and whimsical "rooms" on exhibit. Preview the remarkable variety of this wee world by visiting the Showcase blog.
     From noon to 3 p.m. each day, kids can let their imaginations soar at the free Children's Workshop. They will also find treasures to match their budgets at a special sales table. For Miniature Pedal Caradults, Saturday features a silent auction; on Sunday there will be a free "Tools and Techniques" workshop from 9:30 to 10:50 a.m., and then drawings for dealer-donated items in the afternoon.
     The Showcase will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose on Saturday, October 6 from 10-5 p.m. and Sunday, October 7 from 11-4 p.m. Tickets, available at the door, are -
