Seeing 70 in your rear-view mirror?
Photo of windshield and rear-view mirrorIn 2007 only, taxpayers who are over 70½ can donate up to $100,000 from a traditional IRA to a public charity without having to count the gift as ordinary income.

If you're a senior who has withdrawn money from an IRA during 2007(or will have before December 31), please note that a significant donation to PlaneTree could lower your tax bracket. Both you and your community health library win!

Be sure to follow the "qualified charitable distribution" requirements. For more information, talk to your financial advisor or read "Are Distributions Taxable" on this (slow-to-finish-loading) IRS webpage.
