Healthy Child, Healthy World
|

In 1991 Nancy and Jim Chuda experienced the heartbreak that no parent should have to endure, the loss of their five-year-old daughter Colette to a rare form of cancer - a Wilm's tumor.
Because there was no known genetic link to this type of cancer, it was believed by both the Chuda's and doctors, that it was the result of some type of toxic environmental exposure either in the womb, or infancy.
After the loss of their daughter, the Chuda's decided to direct their pain into a passion that would help protect other children and started what is known today as Healthy Child, Healthy World.
The non-profit organization is dedicated to protecting the health and well being of children from harmful environmental exposures. They educate parents, support protective policies, and engage communities to make responsible decisions, simple everyday choices, and well-informed lifestyle improvements to create healthy environments where children and families can flourish. |

Tariq Khamisa Foundation
|
A father's journey from murder to forgiveness ... Azim Khamisa teaches people how to achieve peace through the practice of forgiveness.
Azim N. Khamisa is a rare individual who not only speaks of powerful and life-changing concepts, he walks the talk. His personal story is quite remarkable. In 1995 Azim's 20-year-old son Tariq was shot to death while delivering a pizza, by 14-year-old gang member, Tony Hicks.
In October of 1995, to honor his son's life, Azim established the Tariq Khamisa Foundation (TKF). In an act of forgiveness Azim reached out to Ples Felix, Hicks' grandfather, and today the men work together to end the plague of youth violence in our country.
TKF is dedicated to breaking the cycle of youth violence by empowering kids, saving lives, and teaching peace through school-based nonviolence programs and curriculum. The program teaches kids about the realities of gangs, violence, revenge, and the importance of becoming "peacemakers".
Azim's latest book "The Secrets of the Bulletproof Spirit; How to Bounce Back from Life's Hardest Hits" - (Random House) will be available in stores February 24, 2009. It is a self-help book with practical instruction on how to develop the inner strength to respond powerfully to all of life.

Lifesource Water Systems
|
Meet Adrienne Stein, also known locally as the Water Lady. She has been involved with important issues surrounding toxins in water for over 25 years.
One of Adrienne's big concerns came when she learned that the toxins absorbed through the skin and lungs from a hot shower, were possibly more dangerous than actually drinking the same amount of water!
Today, Adrienne is a representative for LifeSource Water Systems, Inc., a company that has been manufacturing and distributing water treatment products for residential, commercial and industrial applications since 1984. Their Beotron systems have earned the Gold Seal of approval by the Water Quality Association - and they are endorsed by environmentalist, Ed Begley Jr.!
Among LifeSource's many contributions in the world is a unique pilot project for the House of the Children - Project Huacaria - bringing sustainable clean water and proper sanitation systems to indigenous communities.

gDiapers
|
Meet Kim and Jason Graham-Nye, founders of gDiapers (with their two sons Fynn-6, and Harper-3). As new parents the two found that there weren't many options for those looking for environmentally-friendly diapers, and thus began their diaper journey.
Did you know that a single disposable diaper can take up to 500
years to biodegrade in the landfill? And that conventional disposable diapers are the third largest
contributors to landfills in the world?
The couples research led them to a biochemist in
Tasmania who was selling flushable diapers, and with a bit of collaboration the
gDiaper was born. The diaper consists of a reusable cloth outer pant and a plastic-free refill that you can flush, compost, or toss. gDiapers break down in about 3 months and are breathable, just like sports clothing, so babies stay dry and are far less likely to get diaper rash. They require less washing, saving energy and water, and are really cute!

Barefoot Books
|
Once upon a time two young mothers envisioned a magical world where everyone went barefoot.
In 1993, Tessa Strickland and Nancy Traversy (with four children between them) came up with an idea to start a unique home-based independent publishing company - Barefoot Books. The company creates beautiful books inspired by diverse cultures that engage a child's imagination and inspires them to explore the amazing world in which they live - it is about a healthy value system and way of life.
In addition to being a content conscious based company, Barefoot Books also has a strong commitment to the environment and social responsibility. They ensure that their products
are made by audited manufacturers and printers, and only use ancient-forest friendly
paper in all of their books and marketing materials.
Barefoot Books also takes pride in giving back to society through charities that support their goals of
global understanding, educating children through art and story, and preserving the earth's
resources for future generations.

Redmond Real Salt
|
Long before the earth knew pollutants of any kind, a huge, ancient sea,
covered what is now North America. Pure, natural salt was the main
ingredient of this sea, and over millions of years, the water
evaporated, leaving the salt in undisturbed deposits.
At some point
during the earth's Jurassic era, a range of volcanos erupted around the
ancient sea bed, sealing the salt with layers of thick volcanic ash,
protecting these precious deposits against the pollution that man would
eventually introduce into the environment.
Near the small town of
Redmond, in central Utah, approximately 200 miles south of Salt Lake
City, Redmond Trading, extracts this hand-selected salt from deep within the earth,
and brings it to you in a pure, natural state-without any additives,
chemicals, or heat processing.
While many sea salts appear stark white
because they have undergone a harsh refining process, RealSalt's unique flecks of color are the result of more than 50
natural trace minerals (essential to human health). RealSalt is also kosher-certified.
